Where do scholarships come from?

Individuals and businesses in the community make contributions to the MCCC Foundation to establish scholarships that support a special purpose, honor someone, recognize an achievement, or remember a loved one through a memorial fund.

Each year, the Foundation itself sponsors two major fundraisers for student scholarships: an annual Scholarship Event that raises funds for the General Scholarship Fund, and a Golf Classic supporting athletic scholarships.

What scholarships are available?

The MCCC Foundation offers a variety of scholarships and awards that become available regularly. Our online M-Scholarships application manages all available Foundation scholarships. See "How to Apply" on the college's Scholarships page.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

Follow the steps under "How to Apply" on the college's Scholarships page, where you'll access our online M-Scholarships application. For further assistance, call (609) 570-3607 or e-mail scholarships@mccc.edu.

Is there a deadline for applying?

While the private donor scholarships, amounts and application deadlines vary, most scholarships for continuing students must be applied for in the Spring semester prior to the next academic year. The deadline to apply for scholarships for graduating students is April 1. (See application schedule.) One key to receiving a scholarship is to apply early.

Who decides the awarding of scholarships?

The MCCC Office of Financial Aid coordinates the awarding of all student aid, including scholarships for students continuing at Mercer. However, in the case of Foundation Scholarships, a review committee comprised of faculty and academic departments selects recipients at the request of the donors. Students interested in any Foundation scholarships should follow the "How to Apply" steps on the college's Scholarships page to ensure appropriate consideration.

When and how will I be notified if selected for a scholarship?

For both continuing and graduating students, scholarship recipients are selected in mid-May, with notifications of financial support mailed to students in June. Students receiving a scholarship will sign an agreement and be asked to visit the Financial Aid office to review the agreement and conditions of the scholarship.

When are financial awards allocated to students?

Scholarships are awarded in June for the following Fall and Spring semesters. Reallocations are made in January, provided the recipient continues to meet the specific scholarship criteria (achieving required grades, minimum credit enrollment, etc.).

Are scholarship recipients recognized publicly?

Student scholarship recipients are honored at convocations held twice each year -- continuing students in the Fall and graduating students in May.
