The Mercer County Community College Athletic Department serves to enhance the educational, social, emotional and athletic development of all student-athletes through competitive intercollegiate offerings serving both men and women. Although MCCC is proud of its long history of success in athletics, its coaches, faculty and administrators believe their number one mission is to provide student-athletes with the opportunity of securing an affordable higher education defined by quality programs. The College's challenge is to sustain this access through the provision of student financial assistance.

The Mercer County Community College Athletic Department Scholarship Program helps to support the high academic and athletic goals annually met by our nine programs (baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis and women's cross country). The scholarship program is an avenue for alumni and community members to help continue the development of MCCC student-athletes both on and off the playing fields.

As student participation in athletics increases with the rise in popularity of youth sports programs, MCCC has not been able to match this increase in participation with an increase in student financial assistance. At present, student financial aid for student-athletes is extremely limited. In fact, an average of $20,000 per sport is available for distribution to student-athletes. Reductions in national and state financial aid assistance and the increasing cost of tuition and related fees have caused some high school students to enter a diminishing job force upon high school graduation or begin MCCC on a part-time basis while working hourly jobs that disallow athletic participation. This underscores MCCC's need for a pool of scholarship funds to be distributed solely to student-athletes.

All tax-deductible donations can be allocated to the MCCC Athletic Department Scholarship Program or a specific sport.

Results of the MCCC Athletic Department Scholarship Program
The Mercer County Community College Scholarship Program provides educational support of student-athletes who:

  • participate on an MCCC athletic team
  • are in good standing academically (at least a 2.0 grade point average)
  • carry a full-time academic load (at least 12 academic hours)
  • are New Jersey residents

Your commitment to the MCCC Athletic Department Scholarship Program will promote the value of education and ensure positive impact in the community in the present and the future. In addition, every gift made to the scholarship program is tax deductible through the Mercer County Community College Foundation, Inc., a 5013 organization.

MCCC's Commitment
The Mercer County Community College athletic program is a rallying point for the students and community. It welcomes continued growth while stressing the primacy of academics. The College administration supports the positive influence that sports play in an individual's education growth as well as its impact on the entire campus community.

If requested, MCCC would promote your generosity toward the scholarship program through its Web site and/or e-newsletter that is received by thousands of faculty, students and staff.

About Mercer County Community College
Mercer County Community College, founded in 1961 and formerly known as Trenton Junior College, has nearly 40 years of tradition in fielding outstanding athletic teams that have maintained championship levels at the state, regional and national levels. About 125 student-athletes participate annually in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis and women's cross country. Women's athletic participation has increased by 19 percent since 1997.

Since 1998, MCCC teams have accumulated an overall winning percentage of 65 percent while winning 50 Garden State Athletic Conference titles and 37 Region XIX titles. MCCC teams have combined to win 14 national titles in men's basketball, men's soccer and women's tennis. Nearly 225 current and former student-athletes have earned national All-American honors, while many others have earned regional honors. Many athletes have received scholarships to four-year colleges and universities following graduation from MCCC. Since 2001, about 200 student-athletes have transferred to four-year programs.

The athletic department is committed to employing a knowledgeable and trained staff of administrators, coaches and staff members, and maintaining strong facilities, including its gymnasium, synthetic grass soccer stadium, baseball and softball stadiums, 25-meter swimming pool and fitness/weight center.

The scholarship program is directed by John Simone, Mercer County Community College's director of athletics and assistant dean of students. He can be reached at (609) 570-3740 or simonej@mccc.edu.
