WWC Blood Drive Oct. 2
The first blood drive of the year, sponsored by Medical Laboratory Technology students, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in SC104. The donor eligibility information sheet, and the IScreen information (where donors can complete the history questionnaire ahead of time) is available here. In addition, a raffle sponsored by MLT students at the conclustion of the blood drive will award a Wawa gift card to one of the donors. Read more here. See the flyer here.

Hispanic Hertiage Month Activities Continue Oct. 3
MCCC's Hispanic Hertiage Month celebration continues on Thursday, Oct. 3, with activities on both the West Windsor and James Kerney campuses. WWC Paint Night will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, with a Day of the Dead theme and featuring the film Coco. Appetizers, drinks, art supplies, and instruction is included. Cost: $15 for students, $20 for guests. At JKC, Paint and Sip Night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Center City Cafe. Light refreshments, supplies, and instruction included. Cost is $5 for students and $20 for guests. See the event flyer here.

Last Weekend for 'Leading Ladies' at Kelsey Theatre Oct. 5-6
Your last chance to catch some Shakespeare, desperation, romance and a little cross dressing during the final weekend of Maurer Productions' “Leading Ladies” at Kelsey Theatre this Saturday and Sunday. The production, called “a cross between ‘Some Like It Hot’ and ‘Twelfth Night,’” is a hilarious comedy by the author of “Lend Me A Tenor” and “Moon Over Buffalo.” It is the story of two English Shakespearean actors, Leo and Jack, who attempt to get their hands on an elderly lady's fortune by posing as her long lost nieces. ‘Tartuffe’ Brings Intrigue, Deception to Kelsey Stage Oct. 11-20
Lovers breaking up via cell phone, a pious hypocrite trying to bed his benefactor’s wife and a little political intrigue – all the elements of comic stage behavior – come to Kelsey Theatre in the form of “Tartuffe,” when Moliere’s updated classic tale of duplicity, seduction and outright thievery makes its American premiere as a PinnWorth Production. The performance runs from Oct. 11 to 20. Read more here.

Holocaust Center Fall Events Continue With Film 'Only a Number' Oct. 15
The Mercer County Holocaust-Genocide Resource Center (MCHGRC) continues its schedule of fall semester events with the film "Only a Number," by local filmmaker Steve Besserman, which tells the story of Besserman’s parents, who are Holocaust survivors. The film will be shown at noon on Oct. 15 in the MCHGRC, which is on the second floor of the Library Building. For a complete listing of MCHGRC events for the fall semester, click here.

Panel Discussions on Tap For Women Entrepeneurship Week, Oct. 19-26
MCCC Student Life and Leadership, the Center for Continuing Studies, Follett Bookstore, Lessings Dining Services, American Association for Women in Community Colleges, and Kelsey Theatre will sponsor two panel discussions in honor of Women Entrerpreneurship Week, Oct. 19-26. A panel discussion will be presented on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in CM107 on the West Windsor Campus, and on Thursday, Oct. 24, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in KC229 on the James Kerney Campus. Both panel discussions will feature women entrepreneurs in Mercer County. See the flyer here.

Tickets on Sale for HRIM's 6th Annual Culinary Tasting Event Nov. 6
A number of the area's finest restaurants will be whipping up delectable dishes during the HRIM Program's Culinary Tasting Benefit in the Student Center cafeteria on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 6 to 8 p.m. Proceeds will benefit scholarships for culinary students. Tickets are on sale at Kelsey Theatre, or can be purchased online here. More details to follow!

Staff Present on Perkins Programs at Regional Conference
Representatives from MCCC shared the college’s vision and implementation of the Perkins grant program at the National Academic Advising Association on Sept. 20. Andrew Millin, Program Coordinator of the Medical Office Assistant & Respiratory Care programs and Perkins Education Specialist, along with Perkins Success Coaches Melanie De Gardnuer and David Ford, spent the day at the conference both as learners and teachers, presenting on the effectiveness of student success initiatives. Professor Barbara Behrens Earns PTA of the Year Recognition
Barbara Behrens, Professor of Physical Therapy and founding coordinator of MCCC's Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program, was recognized for her years of service by the American Physical Therapists Association of New Jersey, which presented her with the first PTA of the Year award for 2019. Big Turn Out for Visual Arts Faculty Exhibit Reception
Dozens of students, faculty, staff, and community members attended the reception for the "2019 MCCC Visual Arts Faculty Exhibit" at The Gallery at Mercer last week, with 26 works created by our own talented Visual Arts faculty members on display, in a range of styles. The exhibit runs through Oct. 10 at The Gallery on MCCC's West Windsor Campus. See the Facebook album here.

Organizing is Art at James Kerney Campus Gallery Exhibit
To her list of professional accomplishments -- artist, photographer, professor -- Dominica Paige is eager to add one more: organizer. Paige's exhibit at MCCC's James Kerney Campus Gallery in Trenton, "Kissed & Toothless," focuses on the presentation of ordinary, every day objects to tell a compelling story -- or to encourage the viewer to create a story of their own. Dozens of gallery patrons visited the gallery to see Paige's work and hear her artist talk during a reception on Sept. 18. The show runs through Oct. 8. Read more here.

Viking in the Spotlight: Cross Country Runner Dayana Ramirez
MCCC freshman Dayana Ramirez took first place at the Luzerne Invitational Cross Country meet last weekend, which marked her inaugural top finish in her collegiate career. Read more here.

Reminders

Oct. 7: Poetry, Short Story Reading. If you are an aspiring author or poet, you won't want to miss the MCCC Fiction and Poetry Reading on Monday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. in SC104, sponsored by the West Windsor Learning Center. All members from the campus community and the community at-large are invited to read their original work, or to listen to what others present. Light refreshements will be served. Short stories or poems can be submitted to writingcenter@mccc.edu. See the flyer here.

Oct. 9: Nursing Program Accreditation Public Meeting. MCCC will host a site review for continuing accreditation of the Nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. The public is invited to meet the site visit team and share comments about the program during a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 3-4 p.m. in CM107. Written comments are also welcome, and must be submitted by Oct. 1. See the public meeting notice and details on submitting written comments here.

Oct. 10: Mental Health Resource Fair. The college will host a Mental Health Resource Fair on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. On display will be the "In Their Shoes" exhibit, which seeks to increase understanding, empathy and kindness toward those struggling in silence and to encourage them to seek help.  See the flyer here.

Zumba, Yoga Classes Now Underway. Yoga and Zumba classes for staff and students are now under way! Evening yoga continues through Dec. 9 in PE 225 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday lunchtime yoga classes continue through Dec. 11 in the gym, noon to 1 p.m. See the flyer here. Zumba classes will be held on Tuesdays, through Dec. 10, in the gym from noon to 1 p.m. See the flyer here. There will be no classes during the week of Thanksgiving break. Classes are presented through the Student Life and Leadership office.
