MCCC and Miller-Keystone Blood Center to Hold Blood Drive October 2

9/27/19

West Windsor, N.J. – Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) students and the Miller-Keystone Blood Center in Trenton are partnering to host a Blood Drive. The drive will take place Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Center on the college's West Windsor campus, room 104.

“In order for MLTs to appropriately care for patients and provide safe and effective blood component transfusions, it is important to recruit donors and supply blood to blood centers such as Miller-Keystone,” Shave said.

Shave added that this semester, MLT students are enrolled in Clinical Immunohematology (MLT207), which provides them with education pertaining to blood donor selection, blood collection, processing, and infectious disease testing.

“Our students complete the course with a firm understanding of the importance of blood donation and how the blood supply impacts their job,” Shave said. “They may find themselves working in hospital blood banks, performing transfusions, or interpreting and reporting the findings from serologic testing including blood typing, antibody identification and compatibility testing.”

To donate, please make an appointment here. Photo ID is required. Donors are asked to eat within four hours of donating, and to drink plenty of water beginning the day before.
