IPIC at MCCC
The Instructional and Professional Improvement Committee at Mercer County Community College is dedicated to providing on-campus professional development opportunities to MCCC Faculty. Traditionally, the committee has hosted a series of pre-class week workshops prior to the start of the Spring and Fall Semesters. However, due to popular demand, the committee is evolving to host a wider variety of faculty development opportunities throughout the semester. The committee meets at 12:00 noon on the third Thursday of each month during the Spring and Fall semesters. Contact teach@mccc.edu for more information.
Faculty Circle of Innovation—AY 2014-2015
Brown bag discussions once a month where faculty – fulltime and part-time – get to gether to collaborate, mingle, contribute, and solve problems. Over the course of the hour faculty will discuss tools for sustaining student motivation and improving student learning.
To spur conversations, each brown bag session will begin with a 20-min webinar – from the Magna—20 Minute Mentor series. The remaining 40 minutes will be discussion about the topic. We hope that over the course of our meetings we can share successes, tackle issues, and work together on creating innovative classroom experiences for students.
The focus for this academic year is blended learning – creating the flipped classroom. The flipped classroom is a reversed teaching model that delivers instruction to students in advance through interactive, often online, activities and moves discussion and active learning activities to the classroom. By flipping, students come to class ready to collab-orate and learn in a more active and engaged manner.
