Admissions and Programs

Thank you for your interest in the nursing education program at Mercer County Community College! 

 

STEP ONE: Get Information and Make a Plan

Your first step along your journey is to attend a nursing information session.  This session will cover important information about the program and requirements for admission.  All students applying to the nursing program are required to attend one information session prior to applying.  Email nursing@mccc.edu to register for the next information session.

The next step is to declare health science - nursing as your major and then meet with a nursing education department advisor to plan your course work. 

 

STEP TWO: Take Admission Test

All students applying to the nursing program are required to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), Version 7. The test evaluates reading, math, science, and English and language usage. For more information regarding the TEAS, click   here.  All candidates must achieve a score of proficient or higher to be considered for admission into the professional phase of the Nursing Education program.

The cost of the TEAS is $115 and is paid on-line at the time of registration. If you require financial assistance to take the TEAS, contact nursing@mccc.edu for more information. Students are unable to reschedule or refund TEAS registration without a documented emergency.

All potential candidates interested in applying to the Nursing Education program at Mercer County Community College must take this exam in-person at our West Windsor campus. Please note that you cannot take this exam remotely. Any TEAS results from other testing sites will not be accepted. TEAS score reports will be accepted for up to two years after date of completion of the in-person exam at Mercer County Community College. Candidates may only take the exam up to three times in one 12 month calendar year. Candidates must wait a minimum of 30 days in between TEAS attempts. The TEAS exam must be completed prior to applying to the professional phase of the Nursing Education program. Please plan accordingly.

STEP THREE: Apply to the Professional Phase of the Nursing Education program

Finally, submit your application to begin the professional phase of the nursing education program.  Applications are only posted on the nursing education program website during the application period. Applications are only accepted during the application periods listed below:

  • September 1st - October 1st for the Spring semester.
  • March 15th - April 15th for the Fall semester.

Candidates are eligible to apply to the professional phase of the Nursing Education program when they have met the following requirements:

  • Attended a nursing information session
  • Completed the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) with a score of proficient or higher
  • Have completed the first semester coursework of English Composition, Elementary Statistics, Introduction to Psychology, and Anatomy and Physiology I.    Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, calculated by these four courses, NOT cumulative GPA.   Click   here  for information on how to calculate GPA.
  • Have completed or are in progress with completing the second semester coursework of English Composition II, General and Physiological Chemistry, Development Psychology, and Anatomy and Physiology II.
  • Please note that math and science courses must have been completed within the past ten years. In addition, all biology courses require a grade of C+ or higher.
