Q: I declared my major 2 years ago. Do the new program changes effect me?

A: As long as you declaired your major, you are not affected by the current program changes. You are grandfathered into the original program.


Q: What if a course I want to take is not offered?

A: Usually, your advisor can suggest another course for you to take. The course may not have run because of low enrollment in a given semester. You may want to check the following semester to see if the course will be offered then.


Q: Where do I go to have someone evaluate the courses I have taken and to help me pick couses for the upcoming semester.

A: You should see an Information Technology academic advisor. Anyone of the faculty advisors will be able to assist you .


Q: What jobs can I apply for after completing the Information Systems or Information Technology degree here at Mercer?

Q: Are jobs in computers going away?

A: According to the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2008-09 edition, "Employment of computer support specialists and systems administrators is expected to increase much faster than the average. Job prospects should be best for those with a college degree and relevant experience." They go on to say, " Employment of computer support specialists and systems administrators is expected to increase by 18 percent from 2006 to 2016, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. In addition, this occupation is expected to add 155,000 jobs over the projection decade."
