WEST WINDSOR – A scientist, entrepreneur, and founder of a Hamilton biotechnology company will offer insights into the future of biopharma as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series at Mercer County Community College.

Dr. Eli Mordechai, founder and chief executive officer of Genesis Biotechnology Group (GBG), will discuss the opportunities and challenges as a scientist and a businessman in his presentation “Challenges and Remedies for Sustainability of Biopharma in 2014” on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at noon in the Communications Building, Room 109 of MCCC’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. The lecture is free and open to the public.

GBG is a consortium of vertically-integrated corporate research entities that facilitate the overall market implementation and delivery of basic science products, such as diagnostic assays and drug discovery. Through the consolidation of research activities in the fields of biotechnology, molecular biology, genome research, biochemistry, nano and biophysics, bioinformatics and computer science, GBG has cultivated research partnerships between highly productive research teams that break through the barriers of traditional disciplinary boundaries. Last year, GBG provided internships for five MCCC honors students studying Biology and Chemistry.

Mordechai is a graduate of Temple University, where he was the recipient of the Florence Gloria Freedman Cancer Research Award. He completed his post-graduate work at Barrow Neurological Institute, specializing in molecular neurobiology. Mordechai has published numerous research papers in the fields of infectious disease and chronic illnesses, and is an associate member of the American Association of Bioanalysts and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
