MCCC's Kelsey
Theatre, in conjunction with Graffiti Productions, will offer acting
workshops for teens grades 7 through 12 this fall. "Tomato
Patch On-Screen and Off-Screen" is a ten-week session that
will be held Saturday mornings from Oct. 7 to Dec. 9, 9 a.m. to
12 p.m. Classes are held on Mercer's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old
Trenton Road.
This is the first program to be offered for teens by Kelsey Theatre
during the school year and was conceived as a continuation of the
college's popular Tomato Patch Visual and Performing Arts summer
workshops. According to Tomato Patch coordinator Tracy Antozzeski,
the college received numerous requests from middle and high school
students who were so enthusiastic about their summer experience
in Tomato Patch, they wanted to continue their performance work
during the academic year.
Students will focus on acting skills for stage, television, commercials
and film, as well as aspects of production. They will create both
dramatic pieces and commercials. Their work will be filmed during
their ten weeks of class and viewed at a premiere screening for
family and friends on the last day of class. Each student will receive
a DVD copy of the film.
Graffiti Productions, which developed and oversees the program,
is committed to providing opportunities for young people to grow
and express themselves through the performing arts. Instructors
include Dan Spalluto, a professional actor who has appeared in numerous
productions at Kelsey Theatre and has directed Tomato Patch's summer
master class for high school students, and Jesse Swanson, a Tomato
Patch staff member who is pursing his degree in Applied Theatre
Arts at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Graffiti Productions
coordinators include Antozzeski, a theater production consultant,
and Doug Edelson, a professional with many years of experience in
theater and film as an actor and producer.
The cost for the fall session of Tomato Patch is $300. Class size
is limited. Early
registration is suggested.
With the addition of "Tomato Patch On-Screen and Off-Screen,"
Kelsey Theatre now offers performance classes for students from
kindergarten through 12th grade during the school year. For more
