The
MCCC Radiography program has announced that all 14 members of its
2005 graduating class passed the national certification examination
in radiography administered by the American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists. According to Program Coordinator Sandra Kerr, all
of the graduates are currently employed at area facilities or are
pursuing advanced education in radiologic technology.
Based on graduates’ 2005 scores, the New Jersey Radiologic
Technology Board of Examiners has ranked the MCCC Radiography program
second out of the 17 accredited programs in New Jersey. The average
score of Mercer’s Radiography graduates was 89.4%, placing
their results above both the national (84.8%) and state (85.9%)
averages. The program has achieved a 100% pass rate for the 13 years
since Kerr was appointed program coordinator.
Observes MCCC Acting
President Thomas N. Wilfrid, “The Radiography program has
achieved consistently high passing rates. We are proud of both the
faculty and the students, whose level of commitment to this demanding
field runs deep. Highly trained radiographers are much sought after
in this region and we are glad that Mercer County Community College
is addressing the need so successfully.” Dr. Wilfrid once
taught physics courses to Radiography students.
Students who
successfully complete the Radiography program at Mercer earn an
associate in applied science degree. The program combines courses
in general education and radiography with supervised clinical experience
in area hospitals. Program graduates are trained to perform a full
range of diagnostic radiographic procedures and are typically employed
in hospitals, clinics, diagnostic imaging centers, and the offices
of private physicians. Many elect to continue their education in
specialized imaging technology.
Prospective students must have a high school diploma or the equivalent,
including two years of academic mathematics and one year of a laboratory
science. Courses required for admission to the program may be fulfilled
at Mercer. For more information, contact the Admissions Office at
