The Gallery
at Mercer County Community College opens its new season with the
2009 Mercer County Photography Exhibit Sept. 8 through Oct.
8. Eighty photographic works were selected from the 186 photographs
submitted. Photographers
from every municipality in Mercer County are featured. The show
was juried by award-winning photographer Ed Fausty (BFA, Cooper
Union; MFA, Yale University), a recent visiting artist at Princeton
University.
Hundreds came out to the awards reception on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
The prize for Best in Show went to Ruth Goodman's diptych series.
Will Ostergaard was selected for both the Juror's Choice Award and
a Mercer County Purchase Award. Other Purchase Award winners included
Valerie Bowe, Carl Carter, Judy Filipponi, Jody Kendall, and Maia
Reim. Joanne Donnelly was selected for the Princeton Photography
Club Award. Honorable mentions went to William Engler, Levi Gershkowitz,
Lionel Goodman, Richard Grant, Steven Richman, Gary Saretsky and
Barbara Suomi.
Gallery hours
are Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and
6 to 8 p.m.; and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Gallery is under
the direction of curator Tricia Fagan and is located on the second
floor of the Communications Building on Mercer's West Windsor campus
at 1200 Old Trenton Road.
This biennial
show is offered in partnership with Mercer County's Cultural and
Heritage Commission, which also sponsors the exhibit, with support
from the NJ State Council on the Arts/Department of State and from
County Executive Brian M. Hughes and the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
