"Dr.
Dolittle" Sets Sail at
MCCC's Kelsey Theatre April 19
3/14/08
The loving bond
between father and son transcends all of life's twists and turns
in Theatreworks/USA's charming musical, "Dr. Dolittle."
This beloved character from children's literature talks to the animals
on Saturday, April 19 at 2 and 4 p.m. at MCCC's Kelsey Theatre.
Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West
Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
Based on the
book by Hugh Lofting, the show depicts the author telling a colorful
tale to his son Colin, when father and son are separated during
World War I. Lofting, a lieutenant in the Royal British Army, writes
of a kind-hearted physician who can talk to animals. Set in the
English town of Puddleby-on-March, Dr. Dolittle lives contentedly
with his many animal friends. Then an African monkey appears seeking
Dr. Dolittle's help in treating his cousins, who are afflicted with
a terrible illness. Dr. Dolittle and his friends set sail for Africa
- with Colin now part of the story as his father's First Mate. When
Lofting is injured in battle, it is up to Colin to decide how Dr.
Doolittle's saga will end.
Theatreworks/USA,
based in New York City, is America's largest and most prolific professional
not-for-profit theatre for young and family audiences, touring approximately
16 shows annually from an ever-growing repertoire of 117 plays and
musicals. Every year, over four million people in 49 states and
Canada enjoy Theatreworks productions in venues as varied as local
elementary school gymnasiums, regional fine arts centers, and major
