Registration Is Underway for MCCC Summer Camps;
Season Starts June 23

West Windsor, N.J. -- Summer lies ahead somewhere beyond the snow drifts. Planning is well underway for the summer camp season beginning June 23 at Mercer County Community College (MCCC).  Variety is the theme of MCCC’s popular programs for children ages 6 to 18, and families have the option to register children for the entire summer, or for one of the college’s monthly or weekly programs.  All camps are based at MCCC’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.  The season runs through August 15.

Registration is now underway for Camp College, Sports Camps, and Kelsey Theatre's Tomato Patch Visual and Performing Arts Workshops. MCCC campers take advantage of the full array of college facilities including a full-service cafeteria, Olympic size pool, athletic fields, theater, newly refurbished tennis courts, and more.  Detailed information on all camps, including before and after camp care, is available at www.mccc.edu/camps. General inquiries can be made by calling 609-570-3311.

Camp College's Campus Kids program is offered Monday through Thursday for children ages 6 to 13. There are two four-week sessions, the first running June 23-July 17, and the second running July 21-August 14. Campers create a personalized schedule of six classes per day, selected from more than 60 options. Among the new offerings are Grammar Fun, Hooray for Papier Mache, Nature Art, Meditation for Kids, Loom Mania and Pastel Basics. On Friday Fun Days, campers can either extend their camp week or attend for just a single day of activities that include off campus destinations such as the Academy of Natural Sciences  and Ice Land, and on campus programs in the arts, sciences and more.

One- and two-week programs are available through MCCC Specialty Camps for children ages 6 through 17.  Topics range from the latest technology and sciences to cooking, crafts, and academic prep in math and writing. (Some sessions are half-day; others are full-day.)  A second session of the highly popular Aviation and Aerospace Academy, held at Mercer Trenton Airport, has been added to the schedule.  Camp College also offers a Counselor-in-Training program for teens ages 15 and 16.

The cost for Camp College is $930 for the first four-week session, and $990 for the second four-week session.  Those who register for either four-week session by Feb. 28 will save 50 percent off one Friday Fun Day. Information sessions for Camp College will be held Feb. 15, March 22 and April 26 on the West Windsor campus from noon to 2 p.m. For more information, call 609-570-3311, or visit the Camp College website at www.mccc.edu/campcollege.

Middle school and high school students wishing to explore their artistic talents will enjoy MCCC's Tomato Patch Visual and Performing Arts Workshops, the longest running summer arts program in Central New Jersey. Based out of MCCC's Kelsey Theatre, the program offers classes in the visual arts, dance, theater, and vocal music, under the guidance of a highly qualified staff of arts professionals.

Students select an area of concentration, while also getting the opportunity to add other classes of interest.  According to Kelsey Theatre Artistic Director Kitty Getlik, the program has helped hundreds of young people develop their talents and self-confidence, and go on to pursue careers in the arts.

Workshops will be held June 30-July 24 for students entering grades 8-12 and July 28-Aug. 15 for grades 5-7.  Older students may follow their first session with a three-week Master Class that covers the business of show business, including job searches and auditions.  Classes meet Monday through Thursday, from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. July 28 to August 15.

Both sessions conclude with a "Festival of the Arts," where family and friends can enjoy a live performance by students, as well as view an art exhibit.  Tuition includes a t-shirt, pizza party and DVD of the end-of-season performance.

Tuition for the four-week Session I is $700, plus a non-refundable $25 application fee; the three-week Session II for younger students is $625, with a $25 fee.
