MCCC at ARTWORKS Announces Summer ’05 Schedule
With an enthusiastic response from the arts community and a diverse and expanding list of classes, MCCC's workshops at ARTWORKS are reenergizing the celebrated art school and contemporary gallery located in downtown Trenton. After two successful semesters, this summer the college will offer a full roster of noncredit classes at ARTWORKS beginning June 6.
Taught by MCCC Fine Arts faculty members and instructors from ARTWORKS, courses are designed for both beginner and advanced students and include specialized topics, as well as art and photography for children and teens. Maximum class size is twelve students.
Most courses are offered in six sessions. “Introductory Oil Painting” and “Intermediate Oils/Acrylics” start on June 7. Also starting June 7 are “Drawing from the Model” and "Shooting Still Life: Studio Photography.” “Portrait Painting,” “Block Printing for Beginners” and "Pastel Portrait Painting” will be held from June 8 to July 13.
Other classes beginning in June include printmaking, watercolor basics, travel photography, jewelry making, and garden painting and sketching, as well as working with ink, using “found images,” and painting with encaustic.
Three single-session seminars focus on artists’ materials: “Preparing Painting Surfaces” on June 11 and repeated on July 9, “Making Oil Paint” on June 18 and repeated on July 16, and “Mediums and Varnishes” on June 25 and repeated July 23. A “Thermal Image Silkscreen Workshop” meets July 19 and 26.
ARTWORKS also has classes for children and teens this summer. “Altered Art” will give children a chance to transform ordinary objects into artistic creations from June 8 to July 13, while in “Creating a Visual Storybook,” from June 11 to July 23, children will create characters and bring them to life in their very own story book. “Picturing Yourself,” from June 11 to July 23, teaches young artists about portraiture. Classes for teens include “Painting and Portfolio” from June 6 to August 1, and “Composing from Still Life” from June 7 to July 12.
Instructors for ARTWORKS’ summer semester are Cindy Moore, Miles Truesdell, Karen Smith, Thom Montanari, Jean Burdick, Steve Kennedy, Thomas Kelly, Kathy Shumway-Tunney, Norma Jean DeVico, Catharina Schimert, Trudy Borenstein-Sugiura, Gail Bracegirdle, Matt Lucash, Michelle Soslau, Susan Lociero, Sid Whitfield and Jon Allen.
Classes are offered days, evenings and weekends. ARTWORKS is located across from the DMV building on Stockton Street, just off the Market Street Exit of Route 1. Parking is conveniently located next to the building.
