Garden State African Violet Club Show and Sale May 2-3 to Benefit MCCC Horticulture Grads


West Windsor, N.J. -- The Garden State African Violet Club presents its 64th Annual Show and Sale on Saturday, May 2 from noon to 4 p.m., and Sunday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Center on Mercer County Community College's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

The theme for this year's spectacular show is “Violets Tour The World.” The show will feature African violets in horticulture form and floral arrangements, creatively displayed as international cities or natural wonders of the world.

Visitors will have an opportunity to see hundreds of award-winning African Violet plants, grown by local club enthusiasts and prominent growers, as well as educational displays Experts will be on hand to answers questions.

The following workshops are scheduled:

May 2: "African Violets Basic Care" at 1 p.m.; "Plant Propagation Using Leaf Cuttings"at 2:15 p.m.

May 3: "Streptocarpus Basic Care" at noon; "Dish and Natural Garden Design" demonstrations at 1:15 p.m.

Proceeds from the Garden State African Violet Club show are donated to a scholarship fund for graduating MCCC Horticulture students. The 2014 recipient of the club's scholarship was Michael Torres, pictured at last year's Honors Convocation with Horticulture Program Coordinator Amy Ricco.


There will be drawings for plant give-aways. And, just in time for Mother's Day, award-winning plants from commercial and club members will be on sale.
