The Mercer Women’s Soccer Team had a great run this fall. It came to an end on November 5 when the Vikings faced Monroe CC, the no. 1 ranked women's team in the country, in the Northeast District Playoffs in Rhode Island. The Vikings suffered a tough loss, 7-1. The lone Vikings goal was scored by freshman Cassie Zulla.

Fortunately for the Vikings the rest of the season was far more successful. With a record of 10-5-3, the Vikings proved themselves resilient and resourceful. Head Coach Shelly Dearden noted that the line-up changed often as the team adjusted to injuries.

The Vikings’ hard work and commitment were evident when it mattered most. In their regional semi-final win over Sussex on Oct. 26, the momentum was all-Mercer as they outshot Sussex 31-11. And in the Region 19 championship against Ocean on Oct. 30 the Vikings controlled the game, leading 1-0 at halftime on an unassisted goal by Cassie Zulla, and cementing the win with a goal by Krystal Schnarr on a pass from Jen DiPersio in the second half. Zulla was named the game’s offensive MVP, while Danielle DiMeglio was named for her defensive efforts. DiPersio was the season’s high scorer with eight goals, although many players contributed to the goal total.

Danielle DiMeglio, Lisa Walters and Jen DiPersio were selected to the All-Region team for 2004. Cassie Zulla, Danielle DiMeglio, Krystal Schnarr and Jen DiPersio were chosen for the GSAC 2004 team.
