Casey Murphy Earns NJCAA's Marucci Elite Hitter Award

6/10/16

West Windsor, N.J. – Sophomore outfielder Casey Murphy (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) has been named an NJCAA Division II Marucci Elite Hitter. The award is presented to the All-American nominee with the highest batting average from each district.

Murphy finished the year batting .480 and had the top batting average for Regions 3, 15, 19 and 21.  Sixteen players from across the country received this national award.

In her two seasons at Mercer, Murphy has been named to the All Region 19 First Team and the Garden State Athletic Conference First Team.

This year, Murphy topped Mercer's list in almost every offensive category.  She led the team in batting average (.480), hits (72), RBI’s (46), on base percentage (.543), slugging percentage (.720), triples (2), and doubles (14).

Murphy will be enrolling in the Air Force Academy starting this summer.

This marks the second time in three years that a Vikings player has earned this national honor.  Alyssa Bauer was named the Marucci Elite Hitter for District K in 2014.

Head Coach Ryan Zegarski is very pleased that Murphy has received this well-deserved recognition.

“Casey is one of the most well rounded kids I’ve ever had in the program and one of our fiercest competitors. But she is also one of the nicest and most polite athletes we have had in our program."come across.“  In addition to her success on the field, Murphy earned All Region Academic Honors (GPA of 3.2 or higher)  all four semesters  at Mercer and had a 4.0 semester in Fall 2015.
