MCCC Baseball Player Greg Delgado Receives All-American Honors

7/12/21

West Windsor, N.J. - Mercer County Community College (MCCC) baseball player Greg Delgado has ended a stellar 2021season by being named a First Team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association. He was also named the Garden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year (NJCAA) and Region 19 Player of the Year.

“Greg showed tremendous leadership during the past year and a half,” said Fred Carella, head coach for Vikings baseball. “He had a terrific start to the 2020 season that was cut short due to the pandemic and picked up where he left off this season. He did not let circumstances beyond his control affect his work ethic or his approach to the game.”

Carella notes that Delgado’s efforts have paid off. “He was able to continue to improve on his own. He truly earned all the accolades he received this year.”

Delgado also continued to work hard in the classroom and will continue his baseball career at Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, next year.

A sophomore outfielder from Warminster, Pa., Delgado had a .452 batting average. Of his 47 hits, 12 were doubles and nine were home runs. He also scored 39 runs and knocked in 41 others.

“Greg put together terrific numbers on the field, despite not having the opportunity to play a full 56-game season,” Carella said. “He also stepped up on several occasions to drive in big runs and make big plays in the field.”

Carella adds that Delgado was a positive force for the entire team. “He showed up every day with a smile on his face and was always ready to get to work. He was a pleasure to work with during his time at Mercer, and he was a great example for the younger guys on the team.”
