Two Women's Soccer Players Selected for Region 19 Team

West Windsor, N.J. - Two members of the women’s soccer team at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) have received recognition for excellence on the pitch this fall. Sophomore Emanuely Dos Santos and freshman Emma Nini were selected for the 2021 NJCAA Women's Soccer All-Region Team at the end of the season in October.

Known as “Manu,” Dos Santos is a midfielder who hails from Parana, Brazil. “Manu is very skillful and can put the ball on her teammate’s foot in stride,” said women’s soccer head coach Elyse Diamond. “When Manu first got here, she could not speak or understand English very well. She has grown as a player and student-athlete here at Mercer the past three years.”

English is Dos Santos’ fourth language. “It’s very hard to learn English,” said Dos Santos, an Exercise Science major who is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and Italian.

Dos Santos played in every game for the Vikings this fall and ranked among the region leaders with 13 goals and 10 assists. Two of her goals were game-winners.

Nini is from nearby Hamilton Township and is part of a quartet of Steinert High School graduates who suited up for the Green and Gold. A versatile player, she scored four goals and assisted on four others.

Nini plans to transfer to a four-year school and major in biology. “I didn’t think I was going to enjoy it here as much as I do,” said Nini, who landed at Mercer after her plan of attending a university in Florida fell through. “We have a great team bond.”

MCCC's season ended with an 8-3 loss to Sussex County Community College in the Region 19 title game, the third consecutive regional championship for Sussex. The Vikings’ final record was 6-7 record.
