TRENTON – Mercer County Community College (MCCC) will be honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy of culture and care through a day of community service on Monday, January 19, 2026. Members of the community will show their resolve to give back through action and deeds at the College’s James Kerney Campus (JKC) at 102 North Broad Street in Trenton.
MLK Day activities begin at 9:00 am with registration and breakfast followed by community service projects including preparing bagged lunches and snack packs for Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK), assembling clothing and hygiene kits, and participating in neighborhood clean-up initiatives at 9:30 am. Volunteers will break for lunch at noon followed by a youth-led conversation entitled “Youth Vision Talks: A New Dream Rising,” in which high school and college students will share their ideas, concerns, and hopes for the future of the City of Trenton with MCCC faculty, staff, and community leaders. At 3:00 pm, the day will come to a close with a group reflection and photo.
Stacy Denton, MLK Day of Service organizer and Director of Youth College at MCCC, said “I began my work at the College as a way of giving back to a program that gave so much to me. MLK Day of Service allows us to extend that spirit by leveraging our community partnership to give back to the City of Trenton in a meaningful and collective way.”
Last year, more than 150 community members signed up for the event which is sponsored by American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC), Educational Opportunity Fund, House of Blessings Church of God, Isles, Mercer County Community College, Mercer County Executive Office, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society, The City of Trenton, Trenton Community Street Team, Trio/Upward Bound, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, with special thanks to MLK Day of Service, Engage NJ, and MCCC’s Youth College and Student Life.
