Mercer County Community College Offers Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) Program

10/23/26

TRENTON - Mercer County Community College (MCCC) celebrated the new Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at their newly outfitted lab in Trenton Hall on the James Kerney Campus in Trenton on October 21.

Aimed at preparing participants to effectively maintain, preserve, and enhance the physical assets of a property safely and efficiently and in compliance with federal, state, and local law, the CAMT program is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board and provides students with electrical, HVAC, construction, mechanical, painting skills, and more. Additionally, students will acquire other knowledge required to accurately process work orders; minimize personal and property damage; understand fair housing regulatory compliance; environmental responsibility and regulatory compliance; and professional behavior and communication.

Students will complete approximately 45 hours of training comprised of state-of-the-art classroom and hands-on modules, followed by the CAMT exam within 12 months of declaring candidacy. Upon completion, students will be qualified to enter the rapidly expanding and steadily growing Maintenance Technician workforce driven by rising building inventory and a skilled labor shortage. “This program creates a pathway to a field offering strong employment,” said Dr. Gonzalo Perez, Associate Provost for Workforce, Innovation, and Urban Education at MCCC. “It is about investing in people and creating industry-recognized training.”

“No one can do community alone,” said Kiya King Green, Director of Resident and Community Services for the Trenton Housing Authority. “We are proud to find innovative ways to work together for the betterment of unemployed and underemployed residents who need more than just a roof over their heads. Through partners like MCCC, we can extend the ability to meet residents’ needs through trusting, meaningful relationships.”

“This is a proud moment for MCCC,” said Dr. Robert Schreyer, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “This program represents who we are as an institution that supports the community and provides a meaningful impact.”

Open enrollment dates run from December 1, 2026 – January 28, 2027 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 pm at the James Kerney Campus in Trenton Hall located at 137 North Broad Street, Trenton.
