MCCC's Debi Stotland to Receive Lifestyle Change Award

West Windsor, NJ: The American Heart Association will recognize Mercer County Community College Executive Assistant Debi Stotland with a “Lifestyle Change Award” at the Greater Mercer County Heart Walk on September 9.

A long-time Hamilton resident, Stotland was selected for the honor because she has made a major life style change for better health. A year ago she underwent gastric bypass surgery, then lost more than 130 pounds. Because of the surgery, and more importantly her commitment to better health, she lowered her cholesterol and improved her blood pressure and diabetes. Stotland has been able to increase her physical activity by walking more and leaving her wheelchair behind.

“I am much better now, I have more energy,” says Stotland, who now enjoys cooking homemade gourmet meals every night using fresh vegetables and her own sauces. Before her surgery, she did not have the energy to cook a good dinner after work. She is pleased that her husband is also benefitting from healthier food choices. “I get recipes off the Internet,” Stotland says. “If it doesn’t have the nutritional information, it doesn’t make the cut.”

Stotland has worked at MCCC since 2005 and has been the executive assistant to the dean of Liberal Arts since 2006. She will be recognized at the Heart Walk with a “Lifestyle Change Award” certificate, along with other awardees.

The walk takes place at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, NJ. Announcements and warmup begins at 9:10 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. For further information visit www.heart.org.
