First-Responder to Speak at 9-11 Commemoration Ceremony


WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Trenton Firefighter and Mercer County Fire Academy Instructor, Chris Smith, will speak about his 12 days working at Ground Zero during Mercer County Community College’s 9-11 commemorative ceremony, set for Thursday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m.

The ceremony takes place at the West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road, in the Memorial Garden adjacent to the Student Center.

Other speakers include Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes, MCCC Board Chair Anthony Cimino, and MCCC President Patricia C. Donohue. The invocation will be given by Rev. William E. Coleman Jr., Vice Chair of the college’s Board of Trustees.

Singing God Bless America will be MCCC student Kelly Carvin, winner of a college talent search competition last March. Members of the Mercer County Police Academy will participate with a color guard. A wreath will be placed on the college’s memorial bench.

Names of the 28 Mercer County residents who died in the attacks will be listed in the program.

The community is invited to attend.
