MCCC Offers Irish Heritage Series

West Windsor, N.J. -- “Top o’ the morning to you…and the rest of the day to you,” is a wonderful way to be greeted. The community can now experience a bit of Irish hospitality and culture, and learn the history of the Emerald Isles, in a new Irish Heritage series of classes at Mercer County Community College. The noncredit classes meet on Tuesday evenings, 6 to 8 p.m. at Mercer’s West Windsor Campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road.

The journey begins June 2 through July 7 with “The History of Ireland.” In six sessions, instructor Tom Slattery, president of CCC Celt and a member of the Mercer County Ancient Order of Hibernians, will provide facts and insight on 18 historical eras starting from 3500 BC to the present, through lectures, discussions and multi-media presentations. Tuition and fees are $120.

Slattery resumes the adventure July 14 through August 11, presenting a comprehensive perspective on “Irish Culture” in five sessions. Starting with a brief review of Irish history, participants will learn a bit about the Irish way of life, Celtic languages, oral tradition, music, dance and classic literature. They will gain further insight into the impact of Irish genealogy, sports and the media. A slide will showcase Ireland’s lush landscapes. Tuition and fees are $100.
