Mercer County Symphonic Band
to Perform May 13 in Free Concert

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- On Wednesday, May 13, the Mercer County Symphonic Band will perform an "All-American" concert at Kelsey Theatre on the West Windsor campus of Mercer County Community College. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and admission is free.

The performance will feature pieces by American composers, many with historic or patriotic American themes. Selections include Jerry Bilik's "American Civil War Fantasy," James Curnow's "Heritage of Freedom," George Gershwin's "An American in Paris," Joseph Wilcox Jenkins' "American Overture for Band," Henry Fillmore's march "Americans We," and the traditional Carmen Dragon arrangement of "America the Beautiful." American jazz will be represented by selections from the rhythmically creative Dave Brubeck Trio and attendees will be challenged to identify themes from their favorite television shows in "A Rhapsody of Reruns."

The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Louis Woodruff, has gained a reputation for high quality, entertaining performances, which routinely draw large audiences. The Band is supported by the Arts and Communication Division of Mercer County Community College, with funding from the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission, through a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
