The Public is Invited to Spring Concerts at MCCC

WEST WINDSOR, NJ: Mercer County Community College’s Jazz Band and Chorus will present Spring Concerts in May at Kelsey Theatre on the West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. Admission is free, and the college’s Music Department invites the public to join these musical celebrations.

The MCCC Chorus will perform “Spring Is in The Air” on Tuesday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Pamela Sharples, the diverse Chorus includes both music majors and students from across the campus. The program will include choral works by Dowland, Mozart, and Lerner and Lowe, representing a variety of musical styles. There will be solos by voice majors and the premiere of The Locust Tree in Flower, an original choral work composed by Dr. Mark Jurcisin, a member of the MCCC Music Department faculty.

The MCCC Jazz Band, directed by Professor James Kelly, will present a varied and exciting Spring Concert on Wednesday, May 19, at 8 p.m. Directed by Professor James Kelly, the program will range from the Duke Ellington classic, Things Ain’t What They Used to Be, to Chick Corea’s Latin-fusion standard, Spain, to the up-tempo funk of Stevie Wonder’s I Wish. Other selections will include the “cool” classic, Israel, from Miles Davis’ groundbreaking classic album, Birth of the Cool, as well as Yardbird Suite by Charlie Parker. All selections will feature standout improvisations by jazz students, who will be performing in small groups as well as in the full band.
