West Windsor, N.J.:  Celebrating “Excellence and Vitality in Teaching and Learning,” Mercer County Community College’s Board of Trustees invites the community to its annual Open House and Report to the Community, set for Thursday, Nov. 10 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Conference Center on the West Windsor Campus.  Attendees will learn about all of the college’s credit and noncredit programs in an atmosphere of celebration, interactive displays, entertainment and refreshments.  A public awards presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. Potential students of all ages, parents, alumni, community partners, teachers, guidance counselors, government representatives, and all who are interested in education are invited.

Visitors will learn about the vast array of choices offered at MCCC, including 70 associate degree programs designed for transfer or career preparation, including the new Fashion/Apparel Design program, Funeral Services, Horticulture, Radio and Television, Criminal Justice, Solar Energy Technology, Education, Liberal Arts and an array of programs in the health professions, culinary, and information technology.  The event will offer academic counseling and on-site registration for the coming Winter Session and Spring semesters.

Future students will also learn about bachelor’s degree opportunities offered on campus through the University Center at Mercer, as well as dual admission and transfer opportunities, the Honors Program, NJ STARS scholarships, financial aid and career services.

Numerous noncredit courses and programs will also be featured, including those offered by the Center for Continuing Studies, the Center for Training and Development and the Career Training Institute. Families can also learn about MCCC’s summer day camps for children and teens.

The festivities will include refreshments prepared by culinary students, entertainment by the college jazz band, chair massages by Physical Therapist Assistant students, videos by Television students, and numerous interactive displays.

Communication students will present a special “Live Brochure” when they will verbally present information about unique MCCC opportunities, give student-to-student advice, and share personal successes.  “See, hear and feel what it's like to attend a college that is all about student success,” says MCCC Professor of Communication Kathi Paluscio, advisor to the “Live Brochure.”

MCCC’s trustees instituted the Open House as a way to make the college’s services, successes and accomplishments better known, and to recognize community partners with special awards.  Beginning at 6:30 p.m. the trustees will present the 2011 awards.

Receiving the Alumni Leader Award will be staff member Jeff Callahan, a 1994 Funeral Service graduate who will be cited for his 25 years of service as an invaluable and accomplished member of the college community and area funeral director. He is an active volunteer and a life member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, and was previously honored with the MCCC Community Service Award and Human Relations Award.

Receiving the Partner in Learning Award will be WZBN TV for its daily coverage of regional news.  In addition to its vital role in keeping the public informed about important local news, WZBN has provided internships and jobs for MCCC graduates. The station helps to keep the community informed about the college through regular interviews with staff and faculty, as well as coverage of college events.

The Distinguished Corporate Partner award will be presented to SES, the world’s premiere satellite provider. The company has worked with MCCC’s Center for Training and Development (CTD) for more than a decade to provide international training programs, including for SES employees in New Jersey, Washington D.C., the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

The Open House and Report to the Community coincides with the publication of MCCC's 2010-11 Annual Report and Foundation Annual Report, which detail the successes of the year.
