MCCC Chorus and Jazz Band to Perform Spring Concerts

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The public is invited to free concerts at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre, when the college Chorus and Jazz Band perform. Kelsey Theatre is located on the West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

The Jazz Band will perform on Wednesday, May 7 at 8 p.m. Directed by Professor James Kelly, talented students will present a varied and exciting program. The repertoire will include such jazz classics "How High the Moon" and "Summertime," as well as the Latin tinged "Salsa Vibes" and the Sonny Rollins classic, "Perk-up House." All selections will feature standout improvisations. The students will perform in small groups as well as in the full band.

The college Chorus will perform on Tuesday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Marjorie Herman, the program will feature a performance of the Requiem by Gabriel Faure. Soloists include Alyssa Manzella, David Walter, and Jamel Taylor. Also on the program will be madrigals and folk songs celebrating spring. Conductor Marjorie Herman says, "This group has worked very diligently to learn the Faure Requiem. The students have also researched the composer and his music as part of their preparation and so that their rendering of the work will be informed as well as beautiful."

For more information on either performance, contact the MCCC Music Department at (609) 570-3735.
