MCCC Offers Nursing Program With Online Option

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- Beginning this fall, the Nursing program at Mercer County Community College will offer an online option designed to fit the schedules of those who work full- or part-time, giving them more flexibility to complete their coursework.

After general education prerequisites are completed, students will be able to petition for admittance into the program, which offers professional nursing classes online. The clinical/lab component of the program, essential for all nursing students, will be offered in a 12-hour session one day a week at hospitals and other clinical settings.

"This option will enable the college to increase the number of nursing students that we can accommodate," said Linda Martin, MCCC's dean of Science and Health Professions. It will give working adults more flexibility to complete their coursework.

In order to be admitted to the program students must be enrolled at MCCC as a Nursing Science major and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Experience in health care is preferred but not required. "We look for the student who is most prepared to begin the professional phase of their nursing education," Martin said.

Students are also required to take the HESI Admission Assessment Exam and a computer skills placement test. Access to a computer and broadband Internet service are required.
