Photography Students Produce Documentaries for Mercer Street Friends

Mercer County Community College's 2012 "Documentary Photography" students produced videos for Mercer Street Friends last semester. The video judged most outstanding, now featured on YouTube, was produced by students Jessica Blackwell and Thomas Marasco.

According to Blackwell, "Filming 'Big Little School' was a rewarding experience both on an artistic and personal level. The passion that the teachers possess for giving these students the head start they need in life is inspiring, and I feel honored that I was given the opportunity to highlight their work and that of the Abbott preschool in Trenton. The tremendous warmth and openness of the faculty, staff and students made this all possible. I'm also grateful to the photography department and Professor Michael Dalton for connecting our class with Mercer Street Friends and guiding us in creating this documentary."

Mr. Dalton said that every student in the class produces a video, and the final piece can include all still photos or a combination of still photos and video. "They all have to be narrated with music so the students learn about sequencing, storytelling, point of view and making a personal connection. The best overall documentary gets showcased."
