Three to be Honored by MCCC Board of Trustees
at Community Open House Nov. 12
Alumnus Les Venella Jr., President of Saul Funerals Homes, will be honored with the 2009 "Alumni Leader Award" at Mercer's Nov. 12 Community Open House. PSE&G will receive the 2009 "Corporate Partner Award" and the "American Chemical Society, Trenton Section" will receive the Partner in Learning Award. More here.

The entire community is invited to the event, "Abundant Learning Opportunities Await You at Mercer," on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at MCCC's Conference Center on the West Windsor Campus. More here.

Construction Completed on "One-Stop Student Center and Library"
October marked the completion of Mercer's One-Stop Student Center and Library renovation project. Undertaken with the goal of improving services for students, as well as accessibility of services, the project also brought two of the college's major buildings, constructed in the early 1970s, up to current code standards. Many energy-saving elements were included. A new parking area near the Student Center enables students to make short stops. More here.

Mercer Student Judy Galayda Wins "Top Pilot Award"
Last year she won the "Top Female Pilot" award, and this year Judy Galayda took the "Top Pilot Award" at the National Intercollegiate Flying Association Region VII SAFECON Competition, besting 34 male and three other female contestants. The event was held Oct. 23-27 in Schenectady, N.Y. MCCC's Flight Team came in second in the region. More here.

Kelsey Theatre's Kitty Getlik Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
The New Jersey Association of Community Theaters has recognized Kelsey Theatre Artistic Director Kitty Getlik for her 31 years of service and commitment to community theater. They presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award recently. More here.

MCCC Takes the Joys of Chemistry to Elementary Schools
If you measure it in cups of slime, students from MCCC have distributed ingredients to make the gooey stuff to approximately 7,000 elementary school students in 34 schools over the past 12 years. It happens during National Chemistry Week, and t
he event receives funding from the American Chemical Society (ACS)'s Trenton Section, which will be honored by MCCC this year at its Nov. 12 Community Open House. More here.

Students Recognized/Scholarships Awarded
On Oct. 27 some of MCCC's top students, their families and friends, donors, Foundation Board members, faculty, and staff joined together for a special evening that honored both students and the generous donors who are helping them pursue their educational goals at Mercer. MCCC Gallery Hosts Contemporary Art

The Gallery at Mercer is hosting "Connect," an exhibit that encourages viewers to explore some of the ideas and relationships behind 16 exciting installations, now through Nov. 12. Included is Mercer faculty member Yevgeniy Fiks. The exhibit will be reconfigured in "Reconnect" Nov. 24 through Dec. 17. More here.

County Writers Featured in The Kelsey Review
Readers, take note. Kelsey Review 2009 contains a mosaic of poems, short fiction and drawings by 17 writers and artists who live, work or study in Mercer County. Published annually by MCCC, Kelsey Review is available at county public libraries and at both campuses. More here.

Golf Classic a Winner for Students
Student athletes came up the big winners at the MCCC Golf Classic Oct. 6 at Mercer Oaks. Seventy-eight golfers plus corporate and individual donors helped to raise approximately $10,000 for the Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund. More here with photos.

Holocaust/Genocide Resource Center Hosting Exhibit and Film
The Mercer County Holocaust/Genocide Center at MCCC is hosting a photographic exhibit, "The Holocaust and Genocide: The Betrayal of Humanity" through mid-November on the second floor of the MCCC Library.

On Nov. 12 the Center will show the film "Weapons of the Spirit" at 12 noon in the Communications Building, Room 109, followed by panel discussion.

Mercer to Host National Men's Soccer Tournament

The Athletics Department is preparing for large crowds as MCCC hosts the NJCAA's National Division 1 Men's Soccer Tournament Nov. 18-22.
