Mercer's Spring Semester Begins Jan. 25
With high enrollment expected this spring at Mercer County Community College, students are advised to register early. In addition to welcoming traditional college-age students, Mercer is again set to serve many adult students who are out of work and seeking retraining, and those interested in updating their skills for career growth. Center for Continuing Studies Expands Health Career Choices
With job growth expected in the health professions, MCCC's noncredit division is offering increased options, including
"Pharmacy Technician," "Preparation Course for Dental Radiologic Technologists," "EKG Technician Certification" and "Intravenous (IV) Therapy." More here.

New Biotechnology Courses
Through a new grant, Mercer's Center for Continuing Studies is offering new clinical biotechnology courses targeted to professionals seeking careers in pharmaceutical research. An Information Session is scheduled for Thurs., Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at The Conference Center. The first course begins Jan. 27. More here.

Get Cookin' at the Culinary Center
New courses abound at MCCC's Culinary Center. Chef Wendy Jaeger will set the tone for fresh, flavorful menus with "Soups and Stews of France" on Jan. 31. Chef Elizabeth Dinice's "Coffee: It's Not Just for Breakfast!" on Feb. 7 reveals the popular beverage's versatile uses in a variety of dishes. More here.

Mercer Students Help HomeFront
Mercer's Bonner Leader students helped local teens served by HomeFront this semester, tutoring and mentoring them in a program called "Triumphant Teens." The program gives at-risk teens a vision of a life that includes college and mainstream employment. Story here.

Students of the Phi Theta Kappa honors program took 13 HomeFront children on an outing to a pottery painting studio. Each child was given a Build-A-Bear, and each chose a piece of pottery to paint. The children gave everyone hugs and thanks before they left.

TV Students Produce Video for Mercer Chamber
Mercer's Television students recently presented their semester's client project, a marketing video for the Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce. T
hese advanced students spent the semester developing and producing the video, which the Chamber plans to use to attract new members.

Alumni Success: Aramis Gutierrez Jr. Molds Future Scholars
Aramis Gutierrez Jr. directs the Rutgers University Future Scholars Program, an initiative whose mission is to ensure that academically promising middle school students from at-risk communities have the support they need to attend and graduate from Rutgers University. More here.


William Paterson University Hosts Information Session Jan. 6
Bachelor's degree programs offered by William Paterson University at Mercer will be explained at an Information Session on Wednesday, Jan. 6 in the MCCC Student Center, from 6 to 8 p.m. (Snow date is Jan. 7.) WPU's programs at Mercer include Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education, Liberal Studies and Psychology. C

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Jan. 18
On Jan. 18 Mercer's African American Student Organization and the James Kerney Campus Student Activities Board will host a celebration of the Life and Works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from 1 to 4 p.m. at the James Kerney Campus. More here.

Open House for Summer Youth Programs Jan. 24
The college will host an Open House for all its summer 2010 youth programs on Sunday, Jan. 24, noon to 3 p.m. at the West Windsor Campus Student Center, including Camp College, Sports Camps, Tomato Patch Visual and Performing Arts Workshops. Click here.

Holocaust/Genocide Resource Center Open House/Rededication Jan. 27
The Mercer County Holocaust/Genocide Resource Center has moved into new quarters on campus and will host an Open House and Rededication on Wed., Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. The location is the second floor of the Library, next to the bookstore. More here.
