Three MCCC Student Athletes Earn GSAC Player of the Week Honors

WEST WINDSOR – It was a big week for Mercer County Community College (MCCC) student athletes, with three earning Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Player of the Week honors.
Softball player Gabriella Earley earned Player of the Week recognition following a week that saw the sophomore catcher hit .833 over four wins last week, including three home runs and 12 RBI. Over the season, Early is hitting .490 with a .902 slugging percentage and a team-leading 28 RBI.
The Vikings softball team is 15-2-1 on the season, picking up four Region 19 wins last week, including a doubleheader sweep of Raritan, 18-1 and 13-1 on Tuesday and beating Del Tech Owens 6-3 and 8-2 in a doubleheader Saturday.
In addition, two MCCC baseball players earned GSAC honors for the week, with Sean McGeehan named the Player of the Week and Chris Mormile being named Pitcher of the Week.
McGeehan hit .357 during a week when the Vikings went 6-0. In a 8-3 Region 19 win over Rowan at Burlington, McGeehan had a double, home run and three RBI. The sophomore outfielder has a team-high 23 hits on the season over 23 games, hitting .348 with a .652 slugging percentage.
Mormile struck out six over six innings in a 5-2 win against Region 19 rival Rowan at Burlington last week for his fourth win of the season. The sophomore pitcher has 37 strikeouts in 27.1 innings, with a 2.63 ERA. He is 4-1 on the season with one save.
The Vikings are 17-9-1 on the season following a 6-0 run for the week ending April 1. This week the Vikings moved back into the NJCAA Division II national rankings, coming in at 18.
