West Windsor, N.J. – Mercer County Community College (MCCC) will host a Veterans Day Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Members of the community are invited for a panel discussion entitled “Welcome Home: Insights from Viet Nam.”
The panel features seven decorated Viet Nam combat veterans including moderator Eugene Marsh, U.S. Army; Frank Healy, United States Marine Corps (USMC); Joseph Johnson, U.S. Army; Dennis Mannion, USMC; Eddie Neas, USMC; Art Wiknik, U.S. Army; and Norman Glover, U.S. Army.
The event takes place at the Conference Center on MCCC's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. Weather permitting, the ceremony will also feature a close-up look at a Blackhawk helicopter as a static display.
“People have seen a lot of movies and documentaries about the Viet Nam conflict. This discussion will provide an opportunity to hear from some of the guys who lived it, how it impacted their lives, and ask them questions,” MCCC Veterans Services Director John Becker said.
Becker discusses his goals for the event in a video here.
Becker noted that the event is for MCCC students, but also for the community as a whole. “As the community’s college, this is a way for MCCC to bring everyone together to show our support and appreciation for our veterans and to ‘welcome home’ those who served in the Viet Nam conflict. We hope to enlighten the audience, while we show appreciation to the veterans in our community,” he said.
Admission is free. Service members on active duty, those serving in the National Guard and Reserves, all veterans, and their families are welcome. To RSVP, email MCCC Veterans Services at vets@mccc.edu.
