MCCC Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2021

Lisa Camillone (Athletic Trainer/Asst. Athletic Director)

MCCC Athletics Hall of Fame

During her 33 years as Mercer County Community College’s Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Director, Lisa Camillone broke new ground in athletic training, paving the way for women in the field. With revolutionary vision, Lisa developed a blend of medical, spiritual, and nutritional services that redefined what the role of an Athletic Trainer should be. To this day, one of Lisa’s proudest accomplishments is the mentorship of four MCCC students who ultimately chose careers as Athletic Trainers. In addition to her work with students in the training room and her presence on the sidelines at every Vikings home game – always ready to assist student-athletes in need – Lisa also served as an adjunct professor in the Health and Physical Education Department, and provided career counseling for countless students.

Lisa’s tireless work on behalf of student-athletes wasn’t confined to the hours she spent at Mercer, as she also spent countless hours volunteering her time and expertise throughout our community. For many years, Lisa volunteered in both state and national games for Special Olympics. In 2012, Lisa and her daughter, Andrea, hand-knitted over 150 winter hats that they donated to the Needlework Guild of America, which distributes to a variety of charities throughout New Jersey. Lisa has also served as the first female President of the Athletic Trainers Society of New Jersey (ATSNJ's), and as a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Women in Athletic Training Committee. Additionally, Lisa currently serves as a member of the Athletic Training Advisory Committee for the State Board of Medical Examiners,

Among her many accomplishments, Lisa received ATSNJ's Distinguished Service Award, and was later inducted into the Society’s Hall of Fame - one of the highest recognitions in the profession. She also received the NATA Service Award in 2006. At MCCC, Lisa received the Patricia C. Donohue Leadership Award, which was presented by Mercer’s chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges in recognition of her leadership and mentorship of young women. Additionally, Camillone has been featured in several magazines, including Training and Conditioning (2011) and Moxie Woman (2011).

Tonight, Lisa is joined by her husband, Joseph Camillone, her daughters, Andrea Camillone ‘13 and Nancy St. Hilaire, her granddaughter, Carmela St. Hillaire, and other family and friends.
