Women's Tennis Beats Harford CC 6-3

 

4/22/24

 

Bel Air, MD-Mercer women’s tennis moved to 9-3 on the season following a 6-3 win at Harford CC (3-11).  The Vikings won four Singles flights matches and two Doubles flights matches.

 

In Singles flights, sophomore Valeria Vargas (Valencia, Venezuela/Instituto Santa Cruz) won 6-4, 6-2 at 2nd Singles, freshman Diana Kalajdzic (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown HS) got a 6-4, 6-4 win at 3rd Singles, freshman Andrea Vasquez (San Felipe, Venezuela/Hightstown HS) won 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 at 4th Singles and freshman Makenna Swasey (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) got a a 7-6 (4), 7-5 win at 5th Singles.

 

Kitio and Vargas got a 8-5 win at 1st Doubles and Kalajdzic and Vasquez got a 8-0 win at 2nd Doubles.

 

The Vikings next host Cairn University in their final regular season match on Monday, April 29th at 3:30 PM at Mercer County Park.

 

Women's Tennis Beats Camden CC 8-1

Blackwood, NJ-Mercer women’s tennis moved to 8-3 on the season following an 8-1 win at Camden CC.  The Vikings won all six of their Singles matches.  Freshman Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS) got a 6-0, 6-0 win at 1st Singles, sophomore Valeria Vargas (Valencia, Venezuela/Instituto Santa Cruz) won 6-0, 6-0 at 2nd Singles, freshman Diana Kalajdzic (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown HS) won 6-1, 6-2 at 3rd Singles, freshman Andrea Vasquez (San Felipe, Venezuela/Hightstown HS) got a 6-3, 6-1 win at 4th Singles, freshman Makenna Swasey (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) won 6-0, 6-3 at 5th Singles and freshman Jessica Buker (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) got a 7-5, 6-4 win at 6th Singles.

 

The Vikings also got two wins in Doubles flights.  Kitio and Vasquez won 8-2 at 1st Doubles and Kalajdzic and Vargas got a 8-1 win at 2nd Doubles. 

 

The Vikings next travel to Harford CC for a 3:30 PM match on Monday, April 22nd.

 

Women's Tennis Shuts Out Ocean 9-0

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer women’s tennis moved to 7-3 on the season following a 9-0 shutout win vs Ocean CC (1-3).  The Vikings won all six of their Singles matches with freshman Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS) won 6-0, 6-0 at 1st Singles, sophomore Valeria Vargas (Valencia, Venezuela/Instituto Santa Cruz) got a 6-2, 6-0 win at 2nd Singles, freshman Diana Kalajdzic (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown HS) got a 6-0, 6-0 win at 3rd Singles, freshman Andrea Vasquez (San Felipe, Venezuela/Hightstown HS) won 6-0, 6-0 at 4th Singles, freshman Makenna Swasey (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) won 6-1, 6-0 at 5th Singles and freshman Jessica Buker (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) got a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win at 6th Singles.

 

The Vikings also won all three of their Doubles matches.  Kitio and Vargas got a 8-0 win at 1st Doubles, Kalajdzic and Vasquez won 8-0 at 2nd Doubles and Swasey and Buker got a 8-1 win at 3rd Doubles.

 

Mercer next travels to Camden CC (3-1) for a 2:00 PM on Friday, April 19th.

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer women’s tennis moved to 6-3 on the season following an 8-1 win vs RCSJ Gloucester (2-6).  The Vikings won all three of their Doubles matches with freshmen Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS) and Diana Kalajdzic (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown HS) got an 8-2 win at 1st Doubles, sophomore Valeria Vargas (Valencia, Venezuela/Instituto Santa Cruz) and freshman Andrea Vasquez (San Felipe, Venezuela/Hightstown HS) won 8-1 at 2nd Doubles and freshmen Makenna Swasey (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and Jessica Buker got an 8-6 win at 3rd Doubles.

 

The Vikings won five of their six Singles matches.  Kitio won 6-0, 6-0 at 1st Singles, Vargas got a 6-1, 6-0 win at 2nd Singles, Kalajdzic won 6-0, 6-1 at 3rd Singles, Vasquez got a 6-1, 6-0 win at 4th Singles and Swasey won 7-5, 6-2 at 5th Singles.

 

The Vikings next host Ocean CC (1-2) in a 3:30 PM match on Wednesday, April 17th at Mercer County Park.

The Vikings also won all three of their Doubles matches with Kitio and Vargas winning 8-0 at 1st Doubles, Kalajdzic and Vasquez winning 8-2 at 2nd Doubles and Swasey and Buker getting an 8-2 win at 3rd Singles. 

The Vikings next host RCSJ Gloucester (2-5) on Tuesday, April 16th at 3:30 PM at Mercer County Park.

 

Women's Tennis Loses 0-9 to Meridian to Close Out Trip to South Carolina

Sumter, SC-In their final match in South Carolina, Mercer women’s tennis (4-3) lost 0-9 vs Meridian (15-11).  Freshman Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS) lost a hard fought match at 1st Singles 6-1, 7-5. 

 

Mercer next travels to Stockton University for a 3:30 PM scrimmage on Wednesday, April 10th.

 

Women's Tennis Loses 6-3 to Abraham Baldwin

Sumter, SC-Mercer women’s tennis (4-2) dropped their second match of the season 3-6 vs Abraham Baldwin College (3-6).  Freshmen Makenna Swasey (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and Jessica Buker (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) got default wins at 5th Singles and 6th Singles respectively and at 3rd Doubles.

 

Freshman Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS) lost a three set tie break in her match at 1st Singles 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10).

 

Mercer next plays Meridian CC in a 9:30 AM match on Sunday, April 7th.

 

Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss of Season 1-8 vs Wallace State CC

Sumter, SC-Mercer women’s tennis (4-1) lost their first match of the season, falling to Wallace State CC (16-2) 1-8.  Freshman Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS) got the lone point for the Vikings with a 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (4) win at 1st Singles.

 

The Vikings next face Abraham Baldwin in a 4:00 PM match on Saturday, April 6th.

 

Women's Tennis Moves to 4-0 Following 9-0 Win vs Brookdale

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer women’s tennis moved to 4-0 on the season following a 9-0 win vs Brookdale (0-1).  Freshman Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS), sophomore Valeria Vargas (Valencia, Venezuela/Instituto Santa Cruz) and freshman Makenna Swasey (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) did not give up a point in their 6-0, 6-0 wins at 1st, 2nd and 3rd Singles.  Freshman Jessica Buker (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) also won at 4th Singles for the Vikings.

 

Kitio and Vargas won 8-0 at 1st Doubles and Swasey and Buker also had an 8-0 win at 2nd Doubles to help the Vikings with the 9-0 win.  Freshmen Diana Kaladzic (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown HS) and Andrea Vasquez (San Felipe, Venezuela/Hightstown HS) each got default wins at 5th and 6th Singles and 3rd Doubles.

 

Mercer next travels to USC Sumter for three matches April 5th-7th against Wallace State (11-2), Abraham Baldwin (2-3) and Meridian CC (11-10).

 

Women's Tennis Moves to 3-0 on Season Following 6-3 Win at Ocean

Toms River, NJ-Mercer women’s tennis moved to 3-0 on the season following a 6-3 win at Ocean (0-1).  The Vikings had four wins in Singles flights with freshman Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS) winning 6-0, 6-0 at 1st Singles, sophomore Valeria Vargas (Valencia, Venezuela/Instituto Santa Cruz) winning 6-0, 6-1 at 2nd Singles, freshman Andrea Vasquez (San Felipe, Venezuela/Hightstown HS) winning 6-2, 6-3 at 3rd Singles and freshman Makenna Swasey (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) winning 6-1, 6-2 at 4th Singles.

 

Mercer also had two wins in Doubles flights.  Kitio and Vargas won 8-0 at 1st Singles and Swasey and Vasquez won 8-1 at 2nd Doubles.

 

The Vikings next travel to Brookdale (0-0) for a 3:30 PM match on Thursday, March 28th.

 

Women's Tennis Beats RCSJ-Gloucester 8-1 For Second Win of Season

Sewell, NJ-Mercer women’s tennis moved to 2-0 on the 2024 season with a 8-1 win at RCSJ-Gloucester (0-2).  The Vikings won all three Doubles matches with freshman Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS) and sophomore Valeria Vargas (Valencia, Venezuela/Instituto Santa Cruz) winning 8-0 at 1st Doubles, freshmen Diana Kalajdzic (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) and Andrea Vasquez (San Felipe, Venezuela/Hightstown HS) winning 8-0 at 2nd Doubles and freshmen Makenna Swasey (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and Jessica Buker (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) winnings 8-4 at 3rd Doubles.

 

The Vikings also got wins at 1st-5th Singles.  Kitio won at 1st Singles 6-0, 6-0, Vargas won 6-1, 6-1 at 2nd Singles, Kalajdzic won 6-1, 6-1 at 3rd Singles, Vasquez won 6-1, 6-0 at 4th Singles and Swasey won 6-0, 6-1 at 5th Singles.

 

The Vikings next travel to the Billie Jean Tennis Center in New York to take on Baruch College in a 1:30 PM match on Sunday, March 24th.

 

Women's Tennis Opens 2024 Season with 7-2 Win vs Harford

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer women’s tennis opened the 2024 season with a 7-2 win vs Harford CC.  Freshman Leticia Kitio (Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence HS) won at 1st Singles, sophomore Valeria Vargas (Valencia, Venezuela/Instituto Santa Cruz) won at 2nd Singles, freshman Diana Kalajdzic (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) got a win at 3rd Singles, freshman Andrea Vasquez (San Felipe,Venezuela/Hightstown) won at 4th Singles and freshman Makenna Swasey (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) won at 5th Singles.

 

The Vikings also got a win from Kitio and Vargas at 1st Doubles and Kalajdzic and Vasquez at 2nd Doubles.

 

Mercer will next travel to RCSJ-Gloucester for a 2:00 PM match on Friday, March 22nd.
