Mercer Basketball Season Ends with 69-81 Loss at Raritan Valley CC in Region 19 Semifinals

Branchburg, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball season came to an end following a 69-82 loss at top seed Raritan Valley CC (23-6) in the Region 19 Semifinals.  The Vikings held a four point lead at the half, but were outscored by 17 in the second half and could not regain the lead against the Lions.

 

Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had an outstanding final game as a Viking, finishing with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) had 17 points and 6 rebounds and sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

 

Freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) had 10 points and 6 rebounds and sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) added 7 points and 6 rebounds off the bench in the loss.

 

The Vikings made their first playoff appearance since the 2018-2019 season and finished the season 13-13.

 

 

Mercer Falls to CC Morris in Regular Season Finale 63-78

Randolph, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (13-12) ended their regular season with a 63-78 loss at County College of Morris (19-6).  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had his eight double double, finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists and sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) added 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in the loss.  Sophomore Anthony Rhodes (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) had 6 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds and sophomore Kristian Smith (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) added 6 points in the loss.

 

The Vikings will enter the Region 19 Playoffs as the #4 seed and travel to #1 seed Raritan Valley CC (22-6) for a 7:00 PM game on Tuesday, February 27th.  This will be the first time the Vikings have qualified for the Region playoffs since the 2018-2019 season.

 

 

Mercer Clinches Playoff Spot with 81-73 Win vs Lackawanna

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (13-11) clinched a spot in the Region 19 playoffs with a 81-73 win vs Lackawanna on Sophomore Night.  Sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) led the Vikings with 20 points including four threes and sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals in the win.  Sophomore Kristian Smith (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) had 11 points and sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) added 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. 

 

Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) chipped in 7 points, freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) added 6 points and sophomore Anthony Rhodes (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) had 5 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the win.

 

The Vikings close out the regular season with a 6:00 PM game at County College of Morris (17-6) on Tuesday, February 20th.

 

Mercer Falls Short at Middlesex 69-76

Edison, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (12-11) lost a hard fought battle at Middlesex CC (20-7) 69-76.  Freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo led the Vikings with 20 points and sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had a double double, grabbing 18 rebounds and scoring 15 points.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) added 13 points and sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the loss.

 

The Vikings next play in their final home game of the season on Saturday, February 17th at 1:00 PM vs Lackawanna College (8-17).  The Vikings seven sophomore players will be honored prior to the game for “Sophomore Night.”

 

 

Mercer Holds Off Rockland CC in 79-75 Win

Suffern, NY-Mercer men’s basketball (12-10) held off Rockland CC (10-15) for a 79-75 win.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) led the Vikings with 23 points including five three pointers.  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had 17 points and 7 assists and freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) added 15 points and 4 rebounds in the win.

Mercer Edges Northampton CC 56-55 in Thriller

Northampton, PA-Mercer men’s basketball moved to 11-10 following a thrilling 56-55 win at Northampton CC (15-8).  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) led the Vikings with a double double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  Freshman Jayson Love (Philaldelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) had 11 points and 5 rebounds and sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) added 10 points in the win.

Huge Second Half Pushes Mercer Past Essex CC 83-67

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (10-100 picked up a huge Region win, beating Essex CC (7-12) 83-67.  The Vikings outscored the Wolverines 53-29 in the second half to secure their tenth win of the season.  Freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) led the Vikings with 24 points and sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) added 16 points in the win.  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Middletown, NY-Mercer men’s basketball (9-10) lost 63-64 in a hard fought battle at SUNY Orange (15-4).  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) led the Vikings with 19 points and sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) added 12 points, four assists and three rebounds and freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) had 8 points and 5 rebounds in the loss.

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (8-10) fell to Raritan Valley CC (17-5) 76-84 on Academic Achievement and Cancer Awareness Night.  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) led the Vikings with 21 points and 7 rebounds and sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) added 11 points in the loss.  Freshman Joe Lemly (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) had 9 points and 5 rebounds and freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) added 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

Stanton, DE-Mercer men’s basketball dominated Del Tech CC (4-14) to move to 8-9 on the season.  Freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) led the Vikings with 22 points and 7 rebounds and sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) added 19 points and 5 rebounds in the win.  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had 10 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds and freshman Joe Lemly (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) added 9 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds. 

 

Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had 7 points and 8 rebounds and freshman Lovion Bell (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) and sophomore Kristian Smith (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) each had six points off the bench in the big win.

 

The Vikings next host Raritan Valley CC (13-4) on Thursday, January 25th at 6:00 PM for Academic Achievement and Cancer Awareness Night.

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (8-8) lost to Harcum (16-4) 67-78 in a hard fought battle against the traditional DI power.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick HS) had a game-high 27 points and sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had 15 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds.  Freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) added 11 points and freshman Darius Bland (Willingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) added 6 points and 4 assists off the bench.

 

The Vikings next travel to Del Tech (4-13) for a 6:00 PM game on Tuesday, January 23rd.

 

 

Strong Second Half Helps Mercer Edge Atlantic Cape CC 80-78

Mays Landing, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (8-7) used a strong second half to edge Atlantic Cape CC (11-8) 80-78.  The Vikings were down 30-37 at the half, but scored 50 in the second half to get their eighth win of the season. 

 

Freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) led the Vikings with 21 points and sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had 20 points and 8 rebounds.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) had 16 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds and sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the win.

 

The Vikings next host Harcum College (15-4) on Saturday, January 20th at 12:00 PM.

 

 

Mercer Falls to Montgomery Rockville CC 51-60 in First Game of New Year

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (7-7) dropped their first game of the New Year, falling to Montgomery Rockville CC (6-8) 51-60.  Freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) led the Vikings with 20 points. Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had a double double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with four steals and three assists.  Sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) added seven points and four rebounds in the loss.

 

The Vikings next play at Atlantic Cape CC (9-7) on Tuesday, January 9th at 6:00 PM.

 

 

Mercer Closes Out 2023 With Big 85-58 Win over CC of Morris

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (7-6) closed out 2023 with a big Region win, beating County College of Morris 85-58.  Morris was 11-1 heading into last night’s game.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) led the Vikings with 17 points and was a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line.  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had 15 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds and freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) also had 15 points in the win.  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had a double double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds and sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) had 14 points and was a perfect 3 for 3 from behind the arc. 

 

The Vikings have some time off until they play again on Saturday, January 6th at 1:00 PM vs Montgomery Rockville CC.

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (6-6) fell to Niagara County CC (12-5) 83-92.  The Vikings held a 36-34 lead at the half, but stumbled in the final minutes of the second half.  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) led the Vikings with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) had 20 points including four threes in the loss.  Sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) had 8 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists and freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) added 8 points off the bench.  Freshman Darius Bland (Willingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) had 7 points and freshman Justin Murray (Florence, NJ/Westampton Tech) grabbed 6 rebounds in the losing effort.

 

The Vikings next host County College of Morris (11-1) on Thursday, December 21st at 6:00 PM in their final game of 2023.

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (6-5) got back in the win column with a 71-50 win over SUNY Ulster (3-7).  The Vikings had a three point lead at halftime and went on to outscore the Senators 42-24 in the second half for their sixth win of the season.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) led the Vikings with 18 points and freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) added 12 points off the bench.  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists and sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) had 8 points and 4 rebounds.  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had 7 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals and freshman Calvin Moore (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) chipped in 5 points, 3 steals and 3 rebounds.

 

The Vikings have a quick turnaround as they host Niagara County CC (10-5) in a 12:00 PM game on Sunday, December 17th.

 

Turnovers Cost Mercer in 65-84 Loss vs Cecil

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball (5-5) dropped their third straight game, losing to Cecil College (4-8) 65-84.  The Vikings led 37-32 at halftime, but had 29 turnovers and struggled with Cecil’s press in the second half.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) led the Vikings with 19 points and 3 assists and sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists in the loss.  Sophomore Kristian Smith (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) added 11 points and sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) had 9 points in the losing effort.

 

The Vikings will look to get back on the winning track over the weekend when they host SUNY Ulster (3-5) on Saturday, December 16th at 12:00 PM and Niagara CCC (9-5) on Sunday, December 17th at 12:00 PM.

 

Mercer Loses at Essex in Triple Overtime 87-90

Newark, NJ-Mercer (5-4) men’s basketball lost 87-90 at Essex CC (2-5) in triple overtime.  The Vikings had six players in double figures and battled back multiple times to keep the game close but fell just short against the Wolverines.

 

Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds and also had 3 blocks and 2 steals.  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) also had 19 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds.  Freshman Darius Bland (Willingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) had 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) added 14 points and 7 rebounds.  Freshman Calvin Moore (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and sophomore Anthony Rhodes (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) added 11 points off the bench in the loss.

Mercer Falls to Raritan Valley 87-90 in Overtime

Branchburg, NJ-Mercer (5-3) lost in overtime at Raritan Valley CC (8-2) 87-90.  Raritan tied the game with a two at the buzzer in the second half to force overtime.  Freshman Darius Bland (Willingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) led the Vikings with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks and sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had a double double, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds along with 3 assists and 2 steals.

 

Freshman Calvin Moore (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) had 16 points off the bench and sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in the loss.

Mercer Beats Del Tech 77-63 for Fifth Win of Season

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball moved to 5-2 on the season following a 77-63 win vs Del Tech CC (3-5).  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) led the Vikings with 18 points and 8 rebounds.  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely) had a double double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) added 11 points and freshman Calvin Moore (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) added 9 points and 5 assists.

Scranton, PA-Mercer men’s basketball moved to 4-2 on the season following a dominating 78-48 win at Lackawanna (2-5).  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) led the Vikings with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) added 14 points and 7 rebounds and freshman Darius Bland (Willingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) had 16 points of the bench. 

 

Freshman Calvin Moore (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) had 7 points and sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) added 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks in the win.  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward City, FL/Blanche Ely HS) pulled down 7 rebounds and had 3 assists and freshman Quincey Manning (Blackwood, NJ/Winslow Twp.) added 5 rebounds and 3 assists in the win.

Big Second Half Helps Mercer Edge Frederick 72-69

Frederick, MD-Mercer men’s basketball moved to 3-2 on the season following a 72-69 win over Frederick Community College (0-1).  The Vikings trailed 19-25 at halftime, but outscored the Cougars 53-44 in the second half to pick up the win. 

 

Mercer was led by 17 points from sophomore Jason Mark (Broward City, FL/Blanche Ely HS).  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick HS) scored 11 points and freshman Calvin Moore (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) had 7 points and 5 rebounds.  Sophomore Anthony Rhodes (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) added 7 points and 6 rebounds off the bench and sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) chipped in 7 points.  Freshman Darius Bland (Willingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball fell to 2-2 following a 68-53 loss vs Middlesex College (4-0).  The Vikings struggled offensively, shooting just 29% from the field.

 

Sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) led the Vikings with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.  Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) had 10 points and 5 rebounds and sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) added 10 points in the loss.  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS) had 8 points and freshman Darius Bland (Wilingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) added 6 points in the losing effort.

Mercer Dominates RCSJ-Gloucester 68-34 for Second Win of Season

Sewell, NJ-Mercer men’s basketball moved to 2-1 on the season following a 68-34 win at RCSJ-Gloucester (0-2).  In a game the Vikings dominated from start to finish, MCCC got a very balanced effort from the team to cruise to the win.

 

Mercer started the game on a 19-3 run.  The closest the Roadrunners got was within 12 points early in the second half, but the Vikings outscored the Roadrunners 43-25 to close out the game .

 

Freshman Darius Bland (Willingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) had 10 points, 5 steals and 4 rebounds to lead the Vikings. Freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) and sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) each had 9 points in the win.  Sophomore Khristian Smith (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) scored 8 points and freshman Fred Orock (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown HS) had 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 assists.  Freshman Quincey Manning (Blackwood, NJ/Winslow Twp.) added 6 points and 6 rebounds, sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and sophomore Jason Mark (Broward City, FL/Blanche Ely HS) added 5 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

 

 

Men's Basketball Falls to CCBC-Catonsville 63-84 in Don Beasley Mixer

Baltimore, MD-Mercer men’s basketball (1-1) fell to CCBC-Catonsville (3-0) 63-84 in their second game of the Don Beasley Mixer hosted by CCBC-Dundalk.  Freshman Darius Bland (Willingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) led the Vikings with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 1 block.  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blance Ely HS) had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists and sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.  Freshman Jayson Love (Philadelphia, PA/Academy at Palumbo) had 10 points and 4 rebounds off the bench.  Sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the loss.

 

The Vikings next travel to RCSJ-Gloucester (0-1) for a 6:00 PM game on Thursday, November 9th.

 

Men's Basketball Opens Season with 89-83 Win over College of Southern Maryland

Baltimore, MD-Mercer men’s basketball (1-0) opened the 2023-2024 season with an 89-83 win over Southern Maryland (1-1) in the Don Beasley Mixer at CCBC-Dundalk.  In a back and forth battle, the Vikings held on for the win.  Sophomore Izaiah Johnson (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) led the Vikings with 25 points, including 4 three’s in the win.  Sophomore Jason Mark (Broward City, FL/Blance Ely HS) had 17 points and 6 rebounds and freshman Darius Bland (Willingboro, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) filled the stat sheet with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

 

Sophomore Justin Carbone (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) scored 16 points and freshman Quincey Manning (Blackwood, NJ/Winslow Twp.) had 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks in the win.  Sophomore Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS) pulled down 8 rebounds and freshman Fred Orock (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown HS) added 5 points and had 4 rebounds in the win.

 

The Vikings will play their second game of the Don Beasley Mixer at 5:00 PM today vs CCBC-Catonsville (1-0).
