Year In Review

Coach Marc Vecchiolla's women's tennis team returned 4 of its 6 flights from last year's fifth place finish at the Division III National Championships, but could not quite put together the great run of last season.  The Vikings finished third at the Region 19 Championships and had some singles and doubles success at both the ITA Championships and Region 19 Championships.  Kristina Holsman (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) was the Garden State Athletic Conference Champion (best overall record) at 3rd Singles while returning NCAA All-American (2009, 6th Singles) Maria Eldridge (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence HS) and Sachiko Nishida (Princeton, NJ/Kudan HS) earned Second Team All-Region 19 Honors.  Eldridge was the runner-up at 4th Singles at the Region 19 Championships while Nishida was runner-up at 6th Singles.  The women's tennis team also had some solid performances at the ITA Championships held at Mercer County Park.  Sophomore Emily Dow (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor North) advanced to the quaterfinals at Flight A at 3rd Singles.  Dow and teammate Rebecca Wolf (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) advanced to the semifinals at Flight A at 1st Doubles.  Joanna Zabodyn (Juliustown, NJ/Northern Burlington HS) and Shantell Bacon-Jones (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central HS) also participated in many matches for the Vikings who will look to rebuild his team after losing four of seven players.  The women's tennis team had great success in the classroom with Rebecca Wolf winning the MCCC Female Scholar Athlete Award and Kristina Holsman winning the Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete Award.
