Athletic Director John Simone Honored With MLK Day of Service Award

MCCC Athletic Director John Simone was honored at Mercer’s MLK Day of Service on January 16 th.  Simone received the Champion in Service Award presented by the MLK Day of Service Committee and AAWCC (American Association for Women in Community Colleges) Mercer chapter.  Simone was presented the award at the MLK Day of Service which took place at the JKC campus on Monday.

The award recognizes a staff or faculty member’s service to students. Simone was very humbled by the award, as he recalls telling Lucia Brown-Joseph, who helped chair the award selection committee, “I don’t volunteer at the soup kitchen or homeless shelters.”  Brown-Joseph responded “But you do amazing service to our students every day, going above and beyond.”

This is the first year these service awards have been presented.  Award winners were selected by representatives in different areas of service to our students and to the community.
