The fall season has been so busy and successful, we did not have the time to recognize three Mercer soccer players who have earned GSAC (Garden State Athletic Conference) Player of the Week honors.
The first player to win the honors this fall was men’s sophomore Jesse Van Den Berg (Rhoon, Netherlands/Portus Groene Hart). Van Den Berg had a hat trick in a 6-1 win vs Monroe to earn Player of the Week honors on September 15th. Van Den Berg has scored nine goals this season.
Last week, sophomore Javier Hernandez (Madrid, Spain/IES Lazaro Cardenas) earned Player of the Week honors on October 6th. Hernandez scored Mercer’s lone goal in a 1-0 win against rival Essex. Hernandez has nine assists on the season, which is eight most in NJCAA DII men’s soccer. Hernandez also has four goals.
Mercer women’s soccer player Charlotte Sayer (Ipswich, England/Kesgrave HS) was named GSAC Player of the Week on October 1st. Sayer had a hat trick in Mercer’s 9-0 win at RCSJ Cumberland. Sayer has 12 goals this season, placing her in the top 25 in NJCAA DII women’s soccer.
Congratulations to these players on their success so far this season!
