Mercer Women’s Soccer season came to a heartbreaking end following a 2-1 double overtime loss vs Sussex in the Region 19 Championship on November 1st. In the final minute of double overtime, Sussex’s converted a free kick that richoted off MCCC goalie Daniela Diaz to end Mercer’s season.
Mercer was down 1-0 at the half, but tied the game 1-1 midway through the second half on a goal from Charlotte Sayer off an assist from Lucia Minambres. Diaz had seven saves in the loss.
While the season ended in a very tough loss in the final minute of play, Mercer women’s soccer did finish the 2025 season with nine wins and as close a chance as they could get (nearly a shootout to determine the Region 19 Champion).
Mercer was able to put together a streak of seven straight games without a loss (six wins and one tie). There are accomplishments in every season and with fifteen new players, nine wins was quite a feat.
