Sheldon Parkinson has been named Head Coach of MCCC Women’s Soccer. A familiar face to Mercer, Parkinson was a goalkeeper in 2008 and 2011. In 2008, Parkinson was an NSCAA/Adidas Men’s Junior College DI 2nd Team All-American. In his two seasons at Mercer, Parkinson earned 1st Team All-Region 19 and All-GSAC (Garden State Athletic Conference) honors.
Parkinson went from MCCC to NJCU where he earned Honorable Mention All NJAC (New Jersey Athletic Conference) honors. In the fall of 2013, Parkinson signed a professional contract with Phoenix FC of USL Pro. In 2013-2014, Parkinson played for Liverpool Academy. As a rookie, Parkinson was named one of the top 100 goalkeepers. From 2017-2022, Parkinson played with the NY Red Bull U-23 team.
Parkinson served as an Assistant Soccer Coach for Monroe University in New Rochelle, NY from 2016-2025 and coached both the men’s and women’s programs. Parkinson was on the coaching staff at Monroe that won 4 national titles: 3 with the men’s team and 1 with the women.
Parkinson wants to focus on two things as Head Coach at MCCC: getting his players to enjoy the game and help them move onto to four-year schools. Parkinson also wants to achieve something he fell just short of in his time at Mercer. “We lost in the final seconds of the National Semifinals when I was here. I not only want to get this program to the National Tournament, but help lead them to something I was unable to do here, win the national title.”
It’s a full circle moment for Parkinson to be back at Mercer but one his excited about it. The 2026 season opens for the team on August 29th.
