Women's Soccer Players Kucharz, Madigan, Maringer and Oliveira Earn All-Region 19 Honors

Four MCCC women’s soccer players earned 1 ^st Team All-Region 19 Division I & II Honors which were announced last week.  Freshmen defenders Laura Kucharz (Singen, Germany/Friedrich Wohler Gymnasium) and Fiona Madigan (Dublin, Ireland/Fingal Community College) anchored the Vikings defense and helped Mercer to four straight shutouts heading into the Region 19 Championship game.  Kucharz and Madigan each have three goals and one assist this season.  Head Women’s Coach Ron Stinson said of Kucharz, “Laura is always in the right position, she directs and encourages her teammates and will run the line as an extra attacker.”  When Madigan was asked to move from defense to forward, Madigan made the adjustment look easy, scoring a hat trick.  Defensively, Stinson said “Madigan is very difficult to beat in 1 v 1 situations.”

Goalkeeper Celina Oliveira (Villa Praia de Ancara/Escola Basica e Secoudario Do Vale Do Ancura) had 55 saves in 6 games this season including 20 saves in a 0-3 loss vs Harcum.  Forward Annika Maringer (Asperg, Germany/Gymnasium IB) led the Vikings offense and had seven goals in ten games this season.
