MCCC Women's Basketball Off to Strong Start 

 

 

 

Mercer women’s basketball began the 2025-2026 season with an impressive 95-59 win vs Harford CC.  The Mustangs followed this win up with an 83-80 to CCBC Essex, who is ranked third in the nation in Division II women’s basketball.

 

The Mustangs have had strong performances in both games from freshman Evangelina Francisco (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) and sophomore Mayah Alford (Levittown, PA/Trenton Catholic Academy).  Alford had double doubles in both games with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the Mustangs win vs Harford and 21 points and 11 rebounds in the loss vs CCBC Essex.  Francisco is averaging 19.5 points in two games while shooting 56% from the field.  Francisco scored 21 points including five three point field goals in Mercer’s 83-80 loss vs CCBC Essex.

 

Freshman Qui-Mia Wilkins (Pemberton, NJ/Thrive Charter) had an impressive collegiate debut with a double double in Mercer’s win vs Harford, scoring 25 points and grabbing 19 rebounds.  The Mustangs have also had strong performances from their two returning sophomores Zaakirah Edwards (Philadelphia, PA/Mastery Charter) and Alexandra Garcia Galan (Barcelona, Spain/Jesuites Sarnia Sant Ignasi).  Edwards is averaging 15 points per game and Garcia Galan 13 points per game through the Mustangs first two games of the season.
