MCCC Softball to Host Region 19 Tournament May 2nd-3rd

 

MCCC Softball will be hosting the Region 19 Division II Tournament May 2nd-3rd.  The double elimination tournament will feature the #1 seed Del Tech who is 18-2 in Region play and 28-4 overall, Mercer will be the #2 seed at 15-3 in Region and 35-3 overall, Lackawanna as the #3 seed, who is 11-7 in Region play and overall and Salem CC which is 8-12 in Region play and overall.

 

All three of Mercer’s losses this season have come vs Del Tech.  On March 29th, MCCC beat Del Tech 9-1 in the first game if their doubleheader, followed by a 5-2 loss.  Last week, Mercer lost both games at Del Tech 7-0 and 9-7.  Mercer beat Lackawanna 18-1 and 8-5 on March 22nd and 7-5 and 9-7 on April 25th.

 

Mercer, the #2 seed will play #3 Lackawanna at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 2nd.  Del Tech, the #1 seed plays #4 seed Salem at 10:00 AM.  On Friday, the two winners of the earlier games will play at 2:00 PM and the two losers play at 4:00 PM.  Games will continue Saturday at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM (the if necessary game).  The top two teams in the Region Tournament advance to the District Championship.

 

Mercer has been led by sophomore Kelci O’Dell (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) who is batting .508 this season and broke the MCCC career hits record set in 2014.  Sophomore Emily Wyzykowski (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) is batting .455 with 47 RBIs.  Freshman Stella Logan (Trenton, NJ/Allentown HS) is hitting .491 with 69 RBIs, 57 hits and 14 home runs.  The Vikinga have relied heavily on the arm of freshman pitcher Jozalyn Sheipe-Warthen (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley), who is 21-1 on the season with a 1.92 ERA.  Sophomore Madison Jobes (Roebling, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial) is splitting time catching and pitching and is 11-1 on the mound with an 11-1 record and 3.03 ERA.
