Mercer softball is headed to the NJCAA Division II World Series for the first time in seven years. The Vikings won the Atlantic A District Championship to punch their ticket to Oxford, Alabama. In a best of three District Championship series, Mercer quickly took care of business, beating Cleveland Community College from Shelby, North Carolina 9-0 in Game 1 and then winning 11-1 in Game 2.
Mercer continued to get great work on the mound from freshman pitcher and Region 19 Tournament MVP Jozalyn Sheipe-Warthen (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) moved to 26-2 on the season. Sheipe-Warthen, Emily Wyzykowski (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) and Stella Logan (Trenton, NJ/Allentown HS) each had 2 RBIs and freshman Arianna Acevedo (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) had an RBI in the win.
In the Game 2 win, Sheipe-Warthen had 3 RBIs and sophomore Angelina Guida (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Twp.) each had two RBIs.
The Vikings enter the World Series with a 42-4 record. The NJCAA World Series is a double elimination tournament. MCCC is one of 16 district qualifiers and four at large bids also qualify.
