MCCC Men's Soccer Wins Fifth Straight Game

Mercer men’s soccer is playing their best ball of the season and has won five straight games, including back to back wins this week.

 

On September 19^th, the Mustangs beat Ocean 8-0 win at home.  Freshman Tomaso Scaglia (Borgosesia, Italy/Instituto Supriore G. Ferrari) scored two goals and freshman Corso Casteletti (Florence, Italy/Poggio Imperiale Florence) had a goal and an assist.  Sophomore Emilio Muguruza (Madrid, Spain/GSD Las Rozas) and freshmen Tom Kohlstetter (Hesse, Germany/ Wolfgang-Ernst-Gymnasium), Alex Han (Gangwon-DO, Korea/Yale Meditech High School), Yuki Kanna (Chofu, Japan/Kaishi Gakuen High School) and Giovanni Ochoa (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence HS) all scored a goal.  Freshman Alehandro Sina (Belluno, Italy/V. Follzolo De Rossi) had two assists and freshmen Akinari Eto (Nagasaki, Japan/Chinzei Gakuin High School) and Dan Hendler (Dusseldorf, Germany/Albert Einstein Gymnasium) each added an assist in the win.

 

Mercer struck early in the 8-0 win, with Scaglia scoring just three minutes into the game off an assist from Casteletti.  The Mustangs scored again ten minutes with a goal from Muguruza off an assist from Sina.  Castelletti scored the third goal of the game at the 22’56 mark and Scaglia scored his second goal of the game and half off an assist from Sina.

 

Mercer scored early in the second half off a penalty kick by Han.  Kohlstetter scored a goal a minute later to put the Mustangs up 6-0.  Kanna put Mercer up 7-0 off an assist by Eto.  The game ended on a goal by Ochoa off an assist from Hendler.

 

Mercer had a quick turnaround, traveling to Harford, the next day, September 18^th. The Mustangs won their fifth game in a row, beating Harford 3-0.  Mercer struck early off a goal from sophomore Jesse Van Den Berg (Rhoon, Netherlands/Portus Groene Hart) two minutes into the game.  Eto scored the second goal of the game just before the end of the first half (44’37) to put Mercer up 2-0 heading into halftime.  Sina helped seal the Mustang win with a goal at the 65’54 mark.

 

Mercer next travels to Berkeley College for a match on September 29^th.
