Mercer men’ soccer gave a local boys’ travel soccer club a special opportunity at their home game vs Essex on Saturday, October 4th. Head Men’s Soccer Coach Widmarc Dalce allowed members of the U-9 Mercer United to meet the MCCC men’s soccer team and some of the players also had the opportunity to serve as ball runners for the game, retrieving balls that go out of bounds on the sidelines.
In addition to coaching MCCC men’s soccer, Dalce oversees the Mercer United travel soccer club, which trains in Robbinsville. Dalce viewed the game as a great opportunity for younger players to see higher level soccer and it was also an opportunity to bring the community onto Mercer’s campus and give them a positive experience through our athletic teams.
“The MCCC athletic teams are a great way to bring attention to our college” said Coach Dalce. “It’s also great for our players to see younger players who may look up to them. The young players enjoyed the opportunity to see high level soccer and meet the team after the game.”
It was a win on the field as Mercer held on for a 1-0 win vs Essex to move to 12-0 on the season, but it was also a win off the field for the team and Mercer United.
