Mercer men’s tennis won its first Region 19 Tournament since 2016 in dramatic fashion, beating out RCSJ Gloucester by one point (14 to 13) to take the title. With the win, the Vikings will head to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee May 9th-11th with a chance to win the national title.
The Vikings opened the Region Tournament in dominant fashion, winning all nine of its opening matches, going 6 for 6 in Singles matches and 3 for 3 in Doubles matches. The next day, Mercer had four of its six players win the Region Championship at their flight. Sophomore Peyton Miller (Ewing, NJ/Ewing HS) won his second Region title at 1st Singles. Freshman Jake Tavel (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) was the Region Champion at 2nd Singles. Freshman Marcin Gniadzik (Piensk, Poland/Braci Sniadeckich) was the 4th Singles Region Champion and freshman Michael Satawa (Cottage Valley, NY/Nyack HS) was Region Champion at 5th Singles. The big win of the tournament came at 1st Doubles where Miller and freshman Santiago Maura (Hamilton, NJ/Notre Dame) won 6-2, 6-1 to seal the tournament win for Mercer.
