Mercer men’s basketball got a big Region road win January 22nd, beating CC Morris 85-80. The win moved MCCC to 9-9 on the season and 3-3 in Region play. In this final stretch each game is critical as the Mustangs battle for a Region 19 playoff spot. In order to qualify for the Region playoffs, a team must either have a .500 record overall or .500 record in the Region.
Sophomore Joell Idrovo (Hamilton, NJ/Solebury School) had 31 points including five three-point field goals to lead MCCC. Mercer trailed 42-26 at the half but rallied early in the second half to pick up the big win. Sophomore Torren Greene (Berlin, NJ/Paul VI) added 14 points and five assists and freshman Roman Frenklah (Ashkelon, Israel/Municipal A Comprehensive School) had 12 points and went a perfect 8 for 8 from the free throw line. Sophomore Drew Parrish (New York, NY/Murray Bergrtraum) added nine rebounds, seven assists, six rebounds and five steals.
The win at Morris moves Mercer to 4-3 in Region play with a tough stretch of Region games ahead vs Middlesex, Essex, Raritan and Del Tech. After early season struggles especially in the second half of games, the second half comeback at Morris should give Mercer confidence heading into their final Region games and playoff push.
